Linguistic Drift

Summary:

Since the last hero, the races of Hyrule have evolved. It is obvious when looking at the Rito or the Zora, but Hylians have changed in a more subtle way. Their diet has shifted to extinguish the problems that come with their second sex, and now they don’t even remember what it was like in the past. When Wild gets sent to the past with his fellow heroes, his body will start to revert back to its natural state. It’s too bad no one thought to tell him about that before he presents.

Work Text:

Link had been traveling with the heroes of the distant past for a few weeks now. He met them in central Hyrule, dangerously close to the castle, which reconstruction had only barely started being planned for. He had led them to Kakariko village, where they met with Impa and Zelda and shared their story in more depth.

Now Link, newly dubbed Wild, was in the era of the Hero of Legend, tens of thousands of years in the past, following the tracks of the shadow.

“Legend, would you slow down?” the Hero of the Skies huffed out between heaving breaths.

The Hero of Hyrule took Legend’s arm. “He’s right, you should slow down. It’s okay to be excited, but don’t lose the pack, Lege.”

Legend stuttered his pace awkwardly. “I’m not excited ,” he grumbled, wrinkling his nose.

“Oh, no, of course not,” Hyrule agreed easily, a teasing tone thinly veiled with affection.

The Hero of Warriors stepped in front of the pair, extending his arms theatrically. “The great Hero of Legend is simply unbothered by the woes of mates.” Warriors smirked and jerked his head away when Legend swung his hand at him.

Hyrule gave Warriors a frown, looking at him with intent. In response, Warriors ducked his head slightly and moved back to his previous place in their group.

The heroes of the past were… weird . Wild imagined that it must have to do with the vast amount of time between their eras and his, but he was often playing a game of ‘guess the definition’ whenever the heroes spoke. Thankfully, the changes in lingo hadn’t come up in battle, so he didn’t need to guess what someone meant when it really counted, but the terms they used when lounging around the campfire or while seeking entertainment on their long treks just served to make the minefield that is social interaction that much harder for him. Despite this, they were very friendly to Wild, and he could tell that they weren't purposefully excluding him or anything. Wild just wished asking for clarification wasn’t so damn awkward.

He could also tell that they had been traveling together for quite a while before they picked him up. The looks they gave one another, the banter, the way they talked sometimes without uttering a single word, the casual touches; they all pointed to the fact that they had likely been together for longer than the month that they had told Wild.

Which gave him new worries atop the other ones. Why did they lie to him? Perhaps they just didn’t want him to feel out of place? But the Hero of Time had admitted to him they found Wild after they had assumed the group was already filled out, so that seemed wrong.

Wild just didn’t get it.

When Legend’s house came into view, a blue and white bird flew right up to Legend, swirled around his head for a moment, then was soaring back to the house at high speeds. Legend didn’t seem put off by this, but his pace quickened on the dirt road until the door to his house opened. Then he was running to the man in the doorway, who stepped fully out of the house, and pulled off his large rabbit hood when he saw Legend.

They crashed together in a hug before the man could finish calling out an excited “Mister Hero!”

Legend’s ears were red as the rest of the heroes caught up to him. Warriors opened his mouth to say something, almost definitely a tease, but Twilight elbowed him in the side before he got it out.

The man next to Legend perked up at the arrival of the other Heros. “Link, who are your friends?” he asked, glancing at Legend with mischievous eyes.

Legend’s cheeks were starting to match his ears in shade, so his first attempt at introductions ended in failure. Wild noticed the man’s hand rested on Legend’s waist.

Time unburdened Legend by making the introductions himself. “We’re all heroes across time. We believe Hylia has brought us together to stop a threat wreaking havoc across many Hyrules.”

The man nodded, believing Time’s explanation easily, which Wild found completely nuts, but maybe being friends with Legend gave him an open mind.

“We are technically all named Link, but we have been addressing each other based on our hero titles,” Time went on, “I am Time, and this is Twilight, Warriors, Hyrule, Wind, Four, Wild, and Sky.” Time pointed, twisting around as he said all of their nicknames.

“Ooo,” the man grinned, “And what are you called, Mister Hero?” He turned his head toward Legend, who stubbornly looked away, disgruntled and embarrassed.

“Nothing important,” he mumbled out.

Hyrule gasped, “Legend!” Hyrule had taken offense to Legend talking lowly of himself, which was nothing new. From Wild’s understanding, there had been less time between their eras, meaning Hyrule had grown up hearing all about the “Hero of Legend” well before this quest. It was good that they had a companionable relationship despite that. Wild knew that expectations can sour friendships easily.

“Oh, so it’s Mister Hero of Legend? ” the man nudged Legend with his hip, forcing Legend to move to correct his balance.

Legend’s face was even redder than ever now, and he pulled away from the man to turn around and enter the house. The man stumbled a bit as the thing he was leaning his weight on was taken away from him.

“You better not have sold any of my stuff while I was gone,” Legend called as he fully opened the door and stepped through.

“Of course not, Mister Hero!” the man called back, turning as if he was about to follow. He jolted a bit, then turned back around. “Ah, sorry, I haven’t introduced myself! I’m Ravio, Link’s mate.”

Warriors wolf whistled after Legend, who had disappeared inside the house, but the dull thud that could be heard from inside suggested that he heard it.

“Come on in, Heroes!” Ravio waved them inside.

The next morning, Legend came down late from the upstairs bedroom and pulled Time aside for a quiet conversation.

“Go on back up there, Legend. I’m sure Sky and Hyrule would be happy to help if they’re welcome, too. Does he need anything?”

“He should eat.”

“Well Wild made breakfast.”

At the sound of his name, Wild turned from the stovetop to look at the two whispering heroes. Time’s hand was gesturing Legend to the kitchen, where a pile of pancakes stood surrounded by toppings of fruit, honey, and butter.

“Ah, I hope you don’t mind that I used your kitchen.”

Legend’s tired face pinched in a little smile. “I’m sure you did the kitchen a favor, cooking actual food in it.”

“Is Ravio not a good cook either?”

“He’s just busy, really. Doesn’t have time to cook,” Legend answered as he took out a plate and started piling it with pancakes and fruit.

Wild smiled broadly. Usually Legend is very prickly when it comes to his private life, so answering Wild’s questions about Ravio and his home was big for him. “Well I hope he likes the pancakes. Let me know if there’s any suggestions?”

Legend sighed, “Thanks, Wild.”

Once Legend had gone back upstairs to his and Ravio’s room, Time gathered the heroes that had been sparring or relaxing around and about the house.

“We are likely to stay here for another couple days at least.”

Wind whooped, “So no walking?”

“Why, has something happened?” Hyrule asked at the same time.

Time ignored the youngest member of the chain to address Hyrule. “Nothing bad, Legend just needs to stay with Ravio right now.”

Nods of understanding and a few “oh” s made their way around the group. Wild wasn’t really sure what that meant, but when Legend had brought breakfast up for Ravio that morning, he had assumed Ravio may have come down with something, so he stuck to that.

“Is there anything we should do?” he asked.

Time smiled. “Legend said earlier that he needs some ingredients, and we all appreciate your meals, Wild.”

“Ingredients for what?” Wild leaned forward in attention, interested in what kind of medicinal meal or potion Legend’s era had for sickness.

“Legend says they’re brewed in a potion. He also left directions to a friend he knows that can brew it.”

“He knows I can brew elixirs, right?” Wild furrowed his brows a bit.

“He knows, he just trusts his friend's quality and doesn’t want to chance it.” Time was still smiling at Wild, eye full of mirth, and Wild noticed that the other heroes were just listening to the exchange, except for Wind, perhaps, who was paying a little too much attention to a nick nack on Legend’s shelf.

Wild felt a flush of embarrassment warm his face, and he nodded meekly at Time, kicking himself for pulling the conversation towards himself.

“It’s probably best to send our Alphas to gather ingredients and visit Legend’s friend,” Sky suggested.

Warriors looked a bit affronted at that, but didn’t argue. Twilight nodded his head once, and Four nodded with his hand on his chin.

Time also shook his head in agreement. “That may be best for now.”

Once again Wild was lost in the conversation. When he had first heard the word Alpha, he had thought it was an unkind name to call someone, as Sky had scoffed at Legend’s and Warrior’s bickering. Later, he thought it may have been some sort of synonym to strong or referred to a type of fighter, since Four had suggested that Time, Warriors, and Twilight, “ the Alphas,” lead a mele assault. Legend had glared at him for a second before Four backpedaled on his choice of words at the time. Now, Wild just wasn’t sure. He had no idea what being an Alpha meant or why it was applicable in this situation. He also didn’t understand why Time was exempt from the “ Alphas ” this time, while he had been included in the group in the past.

Curse the change of linguistics and culture over time.

“Um,” Wild hesitated to speak again, but Time’s gaze was patient and Sky’s eyes were attentive, so he pushed on. “Could I go? I’d like to learn this potion recipe from an expert, especially if it’d be useful.”

“That’s a good idea, Wild. I know that in my Hyrule, we make tea, but I haven’t seen the herbs for it while in other eras. Having access to this potion in the future would be relieving.”

Wild blushed a bit under the praise from Sky. Although Time was the unofficial leader of the group, Sky commanded a lot of respect for himself from time to time. His approval meant a little more than the others’.

“Well we shouldn’t waste time. Lege and Ravio probably needed that potion, like, yesterday,” Four spurred the group into action. Twilight and Warriors started packing up, while Wild, who’s slate already held all the items he needed, pulled out a few snacks and cold meals to leave at the house.

“I can’t let you all go hungry,” he said as an explanation to Hyrule, who had followed him curiously.

Hyrule’s face softened somewhat unexpectedly. “You’re a gift, Wild.”

Wild blushed fiercely at that, unable to even formulate a sentence to brush off the compliment.

Twilight called for Wild from the door, and Hyrule gave Wild a hug, burying his face in the other’s neck briefly before letting Wild go to leave.

As the door closed behind him, Wild heard Four murmur “I am absolutely winning the bet.”

Sky’s muffled response was obviously scolding although Wild couldn’t make out the words.

The Ingredients they gathered, about ten times extra, to be safe, were familiar to Wild, but not for any medicinal elixirs he knew. The bugs they needed existed in Wild’s era as a pest, and Wild was shocked to recognise herbs in the ingredient list that looked a lot like weeds from his era. He was between being glad that he could likely replicate the potion in his era and frustrated that he didn’t already know the potion.

Twilight was focused on their task, avoiding stalling, and often softly pushing Wild along when he started mumbling about ingredients and “How is this a new recipe?!” Warriors was a little antsy, staying silent where he would usually fill the void. It worried Wild a bit how they were acting, was the illness Ravio came down with worse than Time let on? But he ignored them in favor of learning about the new recipe.

The friend Legend sent them to was a witch. Warriors and Twilight seemed to have expected this, and Wild supposed that it made sense. The others had said that potions were brewed by magic users in their times.

The old woman was happy to teach Wild as she brewed the potion “This is a recipe that my mother and her mother before her used. It’s reliable, and it even has some relieving effects that work on the side. Irene even uses it for her heats, even though she spends them alone.”

“Grandmother! Do not share information like that with strangers!”

“Don’t go and be ashamed now, dear. You are a beautiful Omega and heats are perfectly natural. Besides, it is for learning purposes. If I wanted to tease you, there are much more embarrassing things.”

Irene, the young witch, narrowed her eyes at her grandmother, then at Wild. “Don’t go repeating that to Greenie, or I’ll gut you.”

Wild raised his hands in surrender, and Irene was satisfied enough to go back to tending to the fire for her grandmother.

“Honestly, I don’t know how I never learned this recipe before. All of the ingredients exist in my era, and a potion for illness would be so amazing.”

The witch gave Wild an odd look. “Oh, dear, this potion is a contraceptive. It is used by Omegas who do not wish to bear pups.”

Although Wild did not understand a good few words that the old witch had just said, he understood the gist of it. “Oh,” he squeeked, his cheeks burning.

Irene laughed at him, and her grandmother scolded her for it. “Maybe you don’t know it because you haven’t presented? I suppose it’s not something you need to know yet.”

Irene’s grandmother sent her out of the room for that, chiding her about “commenting on someone’s presentation.”

“I’m sorry, dear. I wish for my home to be free of any judgment. You are free to ask questions here.”

Wild shifted uncomfortably. “Thank you, but I think I just want to know the next step for the potion,” he settled on.

“Of course, dearie.” The old woman turned her attention back to the pot, and Wild took Irene’s previous spot by the fire.

Wild left the witch’s house armed with two potions and the invaluable knowledge of how to make more. He was somewhat disappointed to learn that the potion was not for an illness, like he originally thought, but he was still satisfied to have learned it anyways.

Warriors and Twilight had been waiting outside the house since there was little room inside and they had nothing to contribute to the potion making. Twilight was relaxing against a tree not far from the door, but by the time Wild fully exited the house, he was on his feet. Warriors was throwing rocks into the river that ran behind the house. When he heard Wild’s exit and Twilight’s movement, he turned around and let out a dramatic sigh.

“Finally!” Warriors trotted up to where Wild and Twilight stood. “Who knew potion brewing took so long. Let’s get back.”

Wild and Twilight easily started following him as he started leading the way back to Legend’s house.

“Sorry about the wait. I’m sure that having to teach me slowed the witch down.”

“Nah, don’t worry about it. I think of the extra time spent here as an investment. It’ll be worth it later for you to have learned,” Twilight assured him.

Wild fidgeted with his slate, where he’d stashed the potions that were just made. “I’m not sure how useful it will be, though?”

“How d’ya mean?” Twilight replied, “I’m sure Sky and ‘Rule will appreciate the reassurance, just in case we’re not in a good place when their heat comes.”

“Oh, yeah, of course,” Wild’s fidgeting continued as he tried to piece together what a heat was and why his fellow, male heroes would need a contraceptive during it.

On top of that, why only Sky and Hyrule? Are the other heroes immune to this heat thing? He’s certainly never heard of it, so it may be a sickness that’s specific to particular eras? Hyrule being susceptible would make sense, then, since Legend’s era had it, but Wild had no clue about Sky, and wasn’t Time between Sky’s and Legend’s eras? So why wouldn’t he be susceptible?

It just didn’t make sense .

As soon as they stepped through the door, Sky was upon them.

“You have it?”

Wild flustered immediately at Sky’s proximity, flapping his hands in front of himself uselessly, trying to form words, before he gave up and just pulled one of the potions out of his slate and handed it to Sky.

“Thank you, Wild!” Sky called over his shoulder, already up the stairs before Wild could force any words out.

A snort from the entrance to the kitchen snapped Wild out of his stupor. He turned to see Wind with a rice ball in hand and evidence of another one left over on his chin. “Gosh, Wild, your face!” Wind snickered, “I didn’t think you got bothered by this shit.”

“Language,” Twilight reprimanded as he softly brushed by Wild, who realized he was still in the doorway, and swiftly moved out of the way for him and Warriors to enter the house.

“It is kinda funny how red your ears are, though,” Warriors, the traitor, sided with Wind.

Wild leveled him with a glare before addressing Wind, “You’re really going to make fun of me while you're eating the food I made?” Wind paused in his snickering for a second. “I could leave you to eat Hyrule’s cooking, you know.”

“But you won’t,” Wind looked slightly pale.

Wild turned away to sit on the couch and organize his slate.

“You won’t, right?” Wind’s voice pitched up, “Wild!”

Warriors continued laughing throughout the exchange, switching targets partway through. “That’s what you get for messing with the cook!”

“Don’t consider yourself safe yet, Captain.” A smile crept onto Wild’s face as Warrior’s faded away.

“You aren’t serious.”

Wild shrugged, looking back at his slate.

“Wild!”

Wild’s mouth spread in a grin as he dropped the nonchalance in favor of laughter.

“You are shitting us!” Twilight swatted the back of Wind’s head softly at the curse.

The room lit up to join Wild in laughing, the somewhat tense atmosphere that Sky left it in subsiding.

Of course, this is what Sky comes back to.

“What’s so funny here?” Sky’s face was thankfully less strained as it was when he met Wild at the door.

“Nothing in particular,” Twilight answered him, “just some teasing.”

“Well I’m glad we’re in high spirits! The house had gotten a bit tense while you were gone, since Ravio’s fully entered his heat.”

“Sorry we took so long.” Wild put his slate down in his lap.

“Oh, don’t worry one bit about it. If you can replicate that potion for me in a couple months, it’d be well worth it.” Sky sat down next to Wild, wrapping his arm around the other’s shoulders. “It takes effect so quickly! Legend said only ten minutes. The tea we use back in Skyloft takes about an hour, and it's usually wise to have a dose every day.”

Warriors and Twilight nodded in approval, although Wild didn’t have a point of reference for this. The elixirs he used had an almost instantaneous effect.

As the four heroes settled into seats in the living room, chattering to each other amicably. Wild zoned out of the conversation a bit, and Sky wasn’t helping, though Wild wasn’t sure if he was aware of the fact that he was nuzzling Wild’s face into his neck. Wild didn’t mind it though, and Sky was soothing, a welcome thing after the confusion and embarrassment from earlier in the day.

It shouldn’t be surprising that he fell asleep.

Wild woke to voices that evening. Sky was talking quietly with Time, absentmindedly running fingers through the hair in his lap.

It took a moment to recognise the position he was in. When he did, he sat up and shuffled an appropriate distance away from Sky.

“Oh, sorry we woke you, Wild,” Sky soothed, holding his arms out as if to take Wild back into his arms.

“How about you both get into bed? Our conversation was just about done anyway,” Time said softly.

Sky nodded, and Time left to go upstairs.

Sky’s eyes drooped a bit as he addressed Wild “Would you like to come to bed?”

Wild was glad for the low light as his cheeks heated. “Oh, uhm, I can go by myself. Sorry for falling asleep on you earlier,” Wild stuttered as he got off the couch.

“No worries, Wild. I’d like you to come to bed with me, but you don’t have to.” Sky calmly got up from the couch as well and stood facing Wild.

Wild stopped, processing what Sky had said. “You… want me to come with you?”

“Of course, Wild. I consider you pack.”

Wild fidgeted with his hands for a moment. “Yeah, okay.”

Sky smiled brightly as he took Wild’s hand and led him to the spare room most of them were staying in.

They picked their way around sleeping bodies to an empty mattress, and Sky pulled Wild down onto it with him. Sky buried his nose into the crook of Wild’s neck before pulling away to undress some, pulling off socks and his thick tunic. Wild took just a short moment to consider Sky’s intimate gesture before also pulling layers off for bed.

Sky settled into the sheets before Wild, so when Wild was finished undressing, he turned to see Sky watching him. The heat in his cheeks were back again as Sky held up the covers for Wild to settle next to him, calling him with a cooing hum as he did.

Wild somehow managed to settle in comfortably beside Sky despite his quickening heartbeat, but Sky, who had looked like he was falling asleep on his feet just a bit ago, sat up and leaned over him to look into his eyes.

Mrrp?

The purring hum sounded like a question, and Wild assumed Sky was just too tired for words right now. “I’m okay,” he answered to Sky’s unspoken question, “I just… Don’t really sleep with anyone else back home.”

Sky buried his face in Wild’s neck and started purring in response, still positioned partially atop Wild, squishing him into the mattress. The gesture was calming, yes, but Wild’s mind immediately started rapid firing questions at Sky’s actions. He was pretty sure Hylians didn’t pur? The more he thought about it, though, the more the vocalizations Sky was making earlier sounded like purs, the more he remembered the odd sounds he had heard from some of the other heroes.

There has to be some bizarre evolution happening between his time and the others for Hylians to have lost the ability to pur . And maybe nonverbally communicate through these purs, now that Wild thought about it?

The more Wild’s head raced with thoughts, the louder Sky’s purring became, and Wild realized that Sky must be trying to calm him. How he knew he was distressed, Wild didn’t know, but as Wild took a deep breath and let go of his spiraling thoughts, Sky’s nose in his neck eased its pressure and the purring dulled down to a gentle sound.

Sky was still cuddled closely to Wild, but, instead of worrying about it, Wild allowed himself to feel the comfort of another person pressed up against him.

The sleep he had that night was the most restful he’d had in months.

The next morning, Wild woke up to a flurry of smells. Someone must have been testing fragrances or something, because the amount of scents in the spare room was dizzying. Sky was still wrapped around Wild, and Wild was hesitant to wake his sleeping partner up, so, instead of leaving to find fresh air, Wild shoved his nose into Sky’s neck to smother the scents. This worked to an extent, as Wild realized that one of the scents was actually coming from the hero beside him.

Sky smelled of a fresh breeze and feathers.

Wild found it calming, and it masked the other scents in the room well enough that he fell back into a doze.

Wild didn’t usually sleep in late, so when he did, the others worried.

Unfortunately, their worry was founded.

“I want the Alphas out of here ,” Sky hissed from his position holding his bed partner.

Time tried to placate the hero, holding his hands in surrender. “We need to know what’s going on, Sky.”

“What’s going on is that Wild just presented and I need the Alphas out.

Time took a moment to process. “But Wild is too old to present?”

Don’t care, get out. ” Sky was quickly getting to the point beyond being reasoned with, so Time backed off, grabbing some bags from the shared room and closing the door behind him.

Wild stirred in Sky’s arms, then gaining a bit more consciousness.

Wild ,” Sky purred soothingly, “It’s okay, I have you.”

Wild blinked his eyes open, feeling drowsy and ill, and furrowed his brows up at Sky. “Did something happen? You…” Wild paused to parse through his fuzzy memories. “Were you fighting with Time?”

“Not fighting, Alpha just wasn’t using his ears,” Sky giggled a bit as he assured Wild. “Don’t worry, cub. No one will bother us for a while.”

“Why?”

Sky blinked at Wild. “I sent them away from you.”

Wild gaped at Sky for a moment. “Why?

Sky’s face softened in understanding. “Oh, Wild, I believe you’ve just presented.”

“I- what?”

“Presented, Wild, as an Omega.”

Wild’s fuzzy thoughts cleared for a moment. “Sky, I don’t know what any of those words mean.”

Sky’s face opened in horror and worry. “You don’t?” Wild slowly shook his head. “Oh, I’m so sorry, Wild.” Sky hugged him ever closer, resting his chin atop Wild’s head. “Goddess, where do I start?”

“Am I sick?” Wild asked in prompting.

“Oh, heavens, no, but you may feel ill, I suppose.”

“Oh, good, because I feel like shit.”

Sky chuckled a bit at that, and Wild felt better now that he no longer had such stress in his face.

“How about you keep asking questions, Wild, and I’ll answer everything I can for you?”

“Okay,” Wild started, “What is ‘presenting?’”

“It’s when a Hylian comes of age and their secondary gender becomes apparent.”

“What’s a secondary gender?!”

The good news was that Sky was very patient and understanding when answering Wild’s questions, although his stress was obvious, and Wild now had the answers to all the weird things the heroes of the past did.

The bad news is that Wild was now just as weird as them.

Wild’s questions petered out as his illness grew. He found himself much more concerned with the present as his skin warmed and his abdomen clenched.

“Sky, why has presenting made me ill?” Wild asked incredulously.

Sky shifted Wild closer in his hold. “Once again, you are not sick. This is a natural state of being for a presenting Omega.”

“Yeah, and it sucks!” Wild wined.

“Yes, it sucks.” Sky assented.

“Isn’t there medicine for this or something?”

Sky hesitated to answer. “Well, I suppose there are actions that can lessen the effects.”

Wild glared weakly up at Sky. “Can we do that?”

Sky’s pause was longer than Wild wanted. “Wild, I just don’t think you’d want to do that. I don’t want to overwhelm you.”

“With medicinal practices?”

Sky huffed out a high pitched laugh, his stress peaking through. Wild’s brows relaxed and he pushed himself closer to Sky. He’d forgotten for a moment how much Sky was already doing for him.

“I wouldn’t call what happens in heat medicinal.”

“Why's that?”

Sky took a deep breath. “Heat is a state that a healthy Omega will experience at periodical intervals. The intensity and frequency will vary depending on the individual. During heat,” Sky paused abruptly, and Wild looked up at him and nodded.

“During heat, an Omega’s body will seek out and work to accommodate an Alpha’s knot in various ways. An individual will feel aroused, slick production will drastically increase, and excessive sexual frustration is expected. This is the body’s way of facilitating reproduction.”

Sky was not looking at Wild, but his arms were still holding him tightly. Wild took a moment to process the rather textbook explanation.

“Okay. Thank you, Sky.”

Sky’s head whipped around to look at Wild, his face was pinched in confusion.

“It’s not your fault that I am in heat. I’m glad you told me about it despite it being a sensitive topic. Understanding what is happening is vital in making informed decisions, which it sounds like I’m going to have to do sooner or later.” Wild fidgeted as he spoke, thinking hard about what he wanted to say.

“Are you okay, Wild?” Sky’s expression had not changed much.

“I just don’t want to make this any harder. I want a clear head right now.”

“Okay.” Sky relaxed some. “Do you have more questions?”

“Yes. One, what is a knot? I think I may have inferred, but I’d like confirmation.”

“A knot is a part of or a function of an Alpha’s penis. It’s meant to increase the chances of propagation. Being knotted is aliviateing for an Omega’s heat.” Sky’s answer was less hesitant this time.

“Sorry, can you describe what a knot does more?” Wild had issues imagining how a “knot” fit in to a “penis.”

Sky took a moment to consider. “When an Alpha is stimulated, the base of the penis will swell. The swell will peak during orgasm, then deflate a few minutes after. Knotting is when an Alpha’s knot is inside of an Omega when orgasm occurs. The swell makes it difficult and painful for the mating pair to separate.”

“How much does it swell?” Wild asked quickly, his speech driven by intrigue and concern more than information seeking.

“It depends,” Sky bobbed his head side to side, “smaller than…” Sky held out his fist, “but not by much. You’d think it’d be painful, but, when in heat, hormones ease the stretch.” Sky looked down at Wild and his eyes widened a bit, blush coloring his face. “Sorry, too much?”

“No,” Wild replied despite his reddening face, “I think talking about it casually is better, actually. It gives me a better idea of what it actually is.”

Sky nodded, waiting for Wild to choose to continue or not.

“Can I repeat the explanation in simpler terms?”

Sky nodded again.

“So heat makes an Omega horny. And sexual intimacy with an Alpha will satisfy my needs?”

Sky squeaked, “Yeah, that’s accurate enough.”

“Ravio is in heat right now.” Sky nodded, even though Wild wasn’t asking. “That’s why we went to get that contraceptive potion.” Wild paused. “ I am in heat right now. You said that I wouldn’t want to engage in sexual activity. Was that because this is new to me, or some other reason?”

Sky had been listening closely to Wild, and, upon being addressed, tensed slightly. His arms pulled Wild closer again as he answered, “Yes, your inexperience makes me wary, but also being in heat can cloud the mind. Giving consent is often done in preheat or even before that. Often an Omega will spend their heat with their chosen mate or with their pack Omega.”

“Pack Omega?”

“Just like a pack Alpha, who takes on a leadership role, a pack Omega is involved with decision making concerned with comfort and social relations. They are generally caretakers and protectors of omegas and unpresented youth.”

“Do we have a pack Omega?”

“Well, I mentioned that the chain isn’t a conventional pack. Leadership just kind of happened, rather than being formally established, so Hyrule and I have been mostly sharing that responsibility. He insists that I am the one who best takes on the role, though.” Sky’s last sentence was quiet. His ears were tinted red in embarrassment.

“That’s why you’re here with me,” Wild whispered compassionately.

Sky nodded, the blush growing on his face.

“I think Hyrule’s right, then.”

Sky gasped, “Wild, stop that. I’m not…” Wild could swear he saw the start of tears in the corners of Sky’s eyes. “I’m not Omega, I just don’t want you to get hurt. Hyrule or even Four could be doing the same thing for you now.”

“I don’t think Four would be hugging me like this.” Sky flinched. “And I can’t see Hyrule standing up to Time like that.”

Wild ,” Sky hissed, “My heart’s going to explode, stop it.”

Wild giggled into Sky’s neck, “I’m glad you’re here, Sky.”

Sky held Wild tighter, and Wild ignored the sniffles above his head.

Wild supposed he fell asleep in Sky’s arms again when he woke up, but that wasn’t the focus of his concerns.

Wild felt tears prickling in his eyes and a wine in his throat as he gripped onto Sky. He felt so empty, and the wetness between his legs was uncomfortable and foreign. His clothes felt too hot and he just could not get close enough to Sky.

“It’s okay, It’s okay, Wild.” Sky soothed, sending out a calming scent to smother the heat scent rising in the air.

Wild let out another wine, burying ever deeper into Sky’s neck. “Hot.

“Yeah, I bet.” Sky squeezed Wild, then pulled him away. Wild cried out at the loss of contact, but Sky was firm. “Wild, hey. Wild, look at me for a second.”

Wild made eye contact with Sky, noticing how pretty the blue of his eyes were.

“Hi, Wild. I’m going to ask you a question and I need you to think really hard about the answer, okay?”

Wild nodded, anything Sky wanted.

“Wild, would you like me to touch you?”

Wild’s body immediately moved closer to Sky, reacting positively to the idea.

Wild, I need you to think about it.” Sky held Wild away from him.

Wild wined at the distance, but Sky wouldn’t budge, so he took a moment to actually consider the words said to him. After a moment, Wild’s brows furrowed. “You’re asking if you can touch me, sexually?”

“Yes, Wild. It could make you feel better, although not as good as a knot might.”

Wild blinked hard, trying to ignore the part of him that was yelling yes, yes, yes, please, Omega, please and trying to focus on his logical mind. “It’ll help?”

“Yes.”

“Okay.”

Sky hesitated another moment. “You’re sure?”

Wild nodded his head. “Mhm. I trust you.”

Sky pulled Wild into a hug. “I’m glad. Would you like to lose some clothes? You said you were hot, and your skin is burning up.”

Wild nodded and pulled away slowly. He attempted to take off his shirt, but Sky redirected his arms and helped him out of the garment himself.

Sky slowly moved to the waistband of his trousers. “You’re still okay?”

Wild nodded. “I trust you,” he repeated.

Sky pulled his pants off and placed them to the side, then moved on to Wild’s undershorts, pulling them down and off his legs with almost reverence.

“Wild, tell me where you want me.”

Wild paused for a moment, pushing past the loud inside me that echoed in his skull.

“I just want you close.”

“Okay. Is it alright if I take off my shirt? Skin contact is usually beneficial.”

Wild nodded maybe a bit too eagerly.

Sky removed his shirt and placed it to the side before lying down next to where Wild had been situated. Wild wasted no time in burying his nose into Sky’s neck and breathing deeply. “How do you smell so nice?”

“I’m purposefully releasing a comfort scent, and your nose is right over my scent gland right now.”

Wild blinked, then snickered, “You already told me about that.”

Sky shifted. “I- well that’s the answer to your question.”

You smell nice, Sky.”

Sky breathed in sharply. He hesitantly answered, “That could be because we’re pack. It could be because of your heat. It depends on how exactly it makes you feel.”

Wild took the words as prompting. “I think I feel horny. Will you touch me, Sky?”

“Just where you want me to.” Sky moved his hands down Wild’s back with purpose, stopping just above the curve of his ass, fingers pressing pleasantly into Wild’s spine.

Wild squirmed, pressing himself closer to Sky and pushing back into his hands at the same time, creating a beautiful arch in his back.

Wild’s breath came out in small pants now, and he wined into Sky’s neck, “More please.

“Do you want me inside?” Sky kept his hands firmly against Wild’s back even as Wild moved his ass up in attempts to get them lower.

Yes please, Omega, please!

Sky shushed Wild as he moved his hands to cover each of Wild’s cheeks. “Make sure to tell me how you feel, Wild. You need to let me know if I need to stop or slow down. I want you to enjoy this, okay?”

Wild nodded frantically from his place in Sky’s neck. Sky’s scent was so nice . It was practically intoxicating in the way that it soothed Wild’s thoughts until very little except the Omega remained.

“We’re going to start nice and slow for you, alright? Try to relax.” Sky narrated as he started kneading Wild’s ass, pulling the cheeks apart until Wild could feel cool air kissing his entrance.

Wild’s arousal increased at the promise of being pleasured, but it also made him feel that much more empty . “Please, Omega, please, ” he whined.

Sky shushed him again, then moved to spread him further, arranging him so that one of Sky’s hands was free to inch towards Wild’s hole.

“It’s okay, Wild. I have you. I’ll take care of you.” Wild tried to relax, even as Sky’s slow movements tightened the muscles in his abdomen.

Wild felt like he might have started begging again as Sky’s fingers finally found his entrance. He gasped as the pads of Sky’s fingers prodded at the tight ring of muscles there.

Relax,” Sky whispered into Wild’s ear. The word was punctuated by Sky’s finger entering Wild up to the first knuckle.

Wild’s breaths became louder “Sky- ” he panted.

Relax,”  Sky’s breaths remained even as he pushed further in, then pulled out and pressed back in at an equally even pace. The slide of his finger in and out was smooth, and Wild recognized the wetness between his legs was acting as a lubricant.

Wild’s desperation dissipated with each shallow thrust of Sky’s hand. Wild breathed out slowly as Sky’s finger pushed in and curled pleasantly, then sucked in a breath as the finger retreated.

“That’s better, you’re doing so good, Wild,” Sky praised and Wild keened. “Tell me how you feel.”

Wild took a few more breaths as he prepared his voice to work. “-t’s good. You’re so good, Sky. Please stay. Don’t stop.”

“I’m not going anywhere, Wild. I’m here.”

“Omega…” Wild keened.

“Shh… You’re doing so good, Wild. What do you need?”

More, ” Wild whispered into Sky’s neck.

Sky heard the quiet request and his finger withdrew for just a moment. The loss was worth it when it returned with a second, stretching Wild the slightest amount and adding to the sensations bringing Wild pleasure.

“How’s this?”

Wild’s words failed him, but he let out an instinctive trill.

“Good, good,” Sky continued to praise.

Sky’s ministrations continued and Wild’s pleasure built until he was back to winning and keening, pleading at Sky for more.

“Such a good omega, you’re doing so good,” Sky praised, but it did little to placate Wild now. “You can let go. Will you cum for me?”

Sky paired his words with perfect thrusts, hitting Wild’s insides just right. Wild couldn’t disobey even if he wanted to. He came from between their bodies, covering his and Sky’s stomachs and surely staining both the sheets and Sky’s trousers.

Wild panted heavily, hands holding onto Sky’s chest and back like a lifeline. Sky’s thrusts continued at a more peaceful pace before slowing. Sky withdrew his fingers slightly, but Wild protested, so he kept them buried in his ass.

“Feel better?”

Wild nodded, “Mhm… Goddess, that was so good.”

“I’m glad. Would you like me to get you cleaned up a bit?”

The thought of being rid of the drying cum was enticing, but the idea of Sky parting from him was unthinkable. “Don’t want you to go,” Wild felt quite childish as he muffled his response into Sky’s shoulder.

Sky huffed in amusement, “That’s normal. It’s okay you don’t want to be alone, but I won’t be far at all. I’m not leaving.”

Wild took another moment to breathe in Sky’s soothing scent. “Okay,” he agreed weakly.

Sky shushed him as he carefully pulled his fingers out of Wild’s body, nuzzling the top of his head and rubbing his back.

“One second, Wild.” Sky leaned back away from Wild for a moment to grab a cloth from nearby, and Wild was so relieved when he finished retrieving the item and returned within Wild’s reach.

Sky shushed him once again and ran the fingers of his clean hand through Wild’s hair. “I’m going to clean you up now,” he warned before using the cloth to wipe away the slick by Wild’s hole, following the trail of it down his ass and in between his thighs.

Sky softly pushed Wild’s hips back so that Sky could wipe up the cum sticking to the front of their bodies. The whole time, Wild kept his face firmly pressed into Sky’s neck.

“That should be more comfortable, but a bath will do you good,” Sky informed Wild as he finished and threw the cloth to the side.

“Don’ wanna get up,” Wild complained.

A smile grew on Sky’s face as he answered, “You don’t have to, but it might make you feel better.”

Wild shook his head and Sky accepted his answer, wrapping his arms around him and continuing running his fingers through Wild’s hair.

Wild fell asleep to the sounds of twin purs.

Wild could hear voices through the groggy haze of sleep. It was becoming a bit of a staple at this point, to wake up to conversation.

“I don’t think alphas are a good idea. Wild is too inexperienced for me to be comfortable letting them near him.”

A question from the doorway.

“Yeah, I’ll have to ask him when he wakes up, but for now, come on in. I’m hungry, and he should at least drink some water.”

Shuffling footsteps approached and a clinking noise sounded when they came to a stop. Something had been placed down near them.

“You need anything washed?” Wild recognized the voice and pushed off more sleep so that he could place it.

“Here,” a shuffling sound, “take these. And if you could bring some rags and a bowl of water? He hasn’t been keen on getting up to bathe.”

“You’re sure you don’t want to inform Hyrule? I’m sure he won’t mind and Ravio should have plenty of help. He should be done soon anyway.” Wild finally recognized the voice as Four’s, and he remembered that Sky had told him that he was a Beta, that he was mostly unaffected by heats and ruts.

“He won’t complain, but Hyrule should rest. I’m sure he had a sympathy heat. He needs to recover. I’m just fine by myself, and I don’t want to overwhelm Wild.”

“Alright. I’m not going to lie to him if he comes down and asks, though.”

“I don’t want you to. Tell him to rest.”

Fabric shifted as someone rose from beside the mattress Sky and Wild were occupying, and Wild’s heart seized for a moment at the thought of someone leaving him.

Wild pulled his face away from Sky’s chest and turned in the general direction that he had heard Four from. His vision was blurry from sleep, so he couldn’t make out much in the dim light. “F… our,” he slurred, voice tired.

As weak as the call was, it had the desired effect, and Four paused in his retreat. “Hey, Wild. Are you feeling alright?”

Wild hummed at the question, not bothering with a proper answer. “Four,” he repeated, then he freed a hand from between his and Sky’s bodies, holding it out to the standing hero. “Four,” he called again, curling and uncurling his fingers, beckoning him closer.

Four took hold of Wild’s hand, stopping its movements. “Hey, Wild. I need to get some stuff and you should eat something, alright? I can come back, and I’ll stay if you like, but let’s get you fed and cleaned first, alright?”

Wild couldn’t remember Four ever speaking so softly to him before, but the way he spoke reminded him of when he was teaching Wind a new skill and the sailor needed redirection. Wild thought he should feel affronted for being spoken to like a child, but Four wasn’t condescending, just soft. Wild felt compelled to sit up and look at what Four had brought in.

Beside the mattress was a tray of food and a pitcher of water, along with two cups. The food was light and easy to stomach, and Wild smacked his lips, realizing how dry they were when he looked at the water.

“Sky can help you get some food while I go get a washcloth for you, okay?” Four directed Wild’s attention back to Sky, who was loosely supporting him. Sky took Wild’s hand from Four’s, and Four pulled away slightly.

“I’ll be right back,” he said before stepping around the other mattresses and leaving the room, shutting the door behind him.

Wild looked at the closed door after Four had left, so Sky redirected his attention to the tray.

“Four brought us food. You don’t have to eat much, since you may feel nauseous, but drink some water.” Sky poured a glass as he spoke and presented it to Wild, who took it with both hands and started gulping down the cool liquid.

“Not too fast, Wild!” Sky put a hand on his forearm. “Slow down so you don’t upset your stomach. The water’s not going anywhere.”

Once Wild was drinking at a more acceptable pace, Sky picked up a cracker from the plate, munching on it, then reaching back to the plate for a strawberry.

Wild watched Sky’s motions as he finished his cup of water. Sky noticed the empty cup and Wild’s gaze, so he asked, “Are you hungry, Wild? You didn’t have breakfast, so you should try eating something.”

Wild nodded, but his hands didn’t move from their place around their cup.

Sky sighed, then smiled. “Here, I’ll take that,” Sky took the cup from Wild’s grasp, “and you can have this.” A cracker was placed in Wild’s hand.

Sky encouraged him to take a bite, so Wild nibbled at the cracker. Sky seemed content enough with that, so he continued to take food from the plate for himself.

Wild finished his cracker and slowly took a second one from the plate. Sky nodded encouragingly, and Wild perked up a bit at his approval.

After Wild made it through the second cracker, he didn’t reach for another, but Sky didn’t push him, instead he finished the cube of cheese in his hand then poured two cups of water, handing one to Wild. “Have as much of that as you want, you don’t have to finish it. You did great. I’m glad you got any solids down.” Wild nodded, ears warming at the praise, and sipped his water. Sky deemed Wild stable enough to pick up his own cup and drink from it.

Sky finished his water and turned his head to look at Wild. “Are you alright, Wild?” Sky looked vaguely concerned. “You’re very quiet. Do you need anything? Have any questions?”

Wild blinked at Sky for a moment before responding, “Just tired. I think I’m a little cold?” He tried to think of if there were any needs bothering him, but the feeling of emptiness was a dull ache, and sleeping felt like a much better idea than indulging in any carnal desires.

“That’s just fine. Let me know if you want anything.” Sky pulled a soft blanket around Wild’s shoulders and left his arm there.

“How long will Four be?”

“He’ll be back, don’t worry.”

“But how long?

“I’m sure he won’t be much longer. He’s being thorough, though. He won’t want to forget to get something you might need.”

Wild nodded solemnly, leaning into Sky’s side.

Wild wasn’t sure how much time had passed before he heard a soft knock at the door, but when he did, he perked up immediately.

Just as he hoped, Four poked his head through a crack in the door, letting himself in after sharing a look with Sky.

“Four!” Wild found himself purring the name.

“Hi, Wild. I’m back. Was the food alright?”

Wild nodded and Four grinned.

“Okay. I brought a washcloth so you can get clean. You up for that?”

Wild nodded again as Four stopped at the foot of the mattress and slid a wide bowl filled with water up to them, specifically within Sky’s easy reach.

“I’m gonna let Sky help you with that. Would you like me to give you some privacy?”

Wild then remembered that he was currently in the nude, wetness still leaking from between his legs, although at a much more manageable pace.

Wild’s face heated up as some of his reality returned to him. “Oh, uhm, I,” Wild stumbled over his words, and Sky picked up on his distress, shifting to hold him closer.

“You’re alright, Wild. Four isn’t upset or anything, he just wants you to be comfortable,” Sky paused to tilt his head up and look at Four, “Right, Four?”

Four nodded, and Wild lifted his head from where it was pressed into Sky to look at him. “I’m just fine, Wild. I need to know what would make you most comfortable. If you’d rather me leave, then I will. If you want me to stay, then I wouldn’t dare go anywhere.” Four’s words were said like a promise, and the emboldened Wild enough for him to speak again.

“I don’t want you to go,” Wild admitted softly.

“Then I shall stay.” Four responded without hesitation.

“You wouldn’t be uncomfortable with my…” Wild wasn’t sure what he meant to say as he trailed off, but Four understood anyway.

“Stuff like this is natural, Wild. It also wouldn’t be my first time supporting an omega. I don’t think differently of you, and I’m honored to help you in any way I can. You’re pack, Wild. I care about you.”

Wild nodded, tears pricking in his eyes at the comforting finality in Four’s words. He fully raised his head from Sky’s chest and held his hand out to Four. When Four took it, Wild pulled him towards the mattress. Wild didn’t have enough strength to move Four, but he took the direction and moved forward to where Wild wanted him. Wild pulled away from Sky just enough to press his face into the crook of Four’s neck, where he found a scent just as dependable and caring as the man himself. Clean metal and polish mixed with old parchment and the smell of incoming rain. Wild melted into Four’s scent, breathing deeply. Four raised his head for Wild and held him about the shoulders. “I’m here Wild, I’m not going anywhere.”

Wild sniffled at the threat of tears, blinking them away. He squeezed Four’s hand where they were still intertwined, then pulled back into an easier position nestled into Sky’s side.

“Four brought us stuff to get you cleaned. Can I help you clean up, Wild?” Sky asked as Wild leaned back into him.

“Okay,” Wild’s voice was quiet, and Sky squeezed his shoulder before moving back to grab the water bowl and washcloth.

“Wild, I need you to move back a bit. Can you sit with Four?”

Wild nodded and obediently moved to sidle up next to Four, who easily accepted the extra weight that Wild wasn’t holding himself.

Sky took Wild’s arms, rubbing the washcloth over them, then up to his shoulders and neck. Wild allowed Sky’s touch, purring softly as Sky took care of him.

Four held Wild steady, moving his limbs up and down as Sky needed. When Sky was done with his front, Four nudged him to turn around and settle into Four’s neck. Wild didn’t struggle, the purring only growing in intensity as he breathed in Four’s scent. He hardly noticed when Sky finished bathing him and moved on to wiping down himself before placing the bowl, with the washcloth in it, farther from the mattress.

“Wild, how about you lie down and rest, hm?” Sky nudged Wild into a lying position on the sheets.

Wild held onto Four, pulling him down to lie with him, but Four did little to resist, just arranging limbs to be more comfortable.

“S… ky?” Wild called.

“I’m not going anywhere,” Sky assured him, “You can rest now.”

So Wild closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep, held by two of his fellow heroes.

The next time Wild woke, he felt uncomfortably hot under the sheets. The wetness between his legs was back in full, and he groaned his displeasure.

Sky roused from next to him, quickly assessing Wild’s state, then pulling him out from under the covers and into his arms.

“Hey, Wild. Tell me how you feel,” Sky prompted.

Bad,” Wild grumbled, “fucking horny.”

“What do you want?” Sky kept calm despite Wild’s harsh responses.

“Make it go away,” Wild demanded. He then looked up at Sky and blinked. “Can you touch me again?” He tried again, quieter.

“I can, if you want me to. Four’s still here, do you want me to wake him up and send him out? It’s okay if you want him to stay, too.”

“I don’t want him to go,” Wild immediately replied, then he thought about the implications of that. “He wouldn’t be upset or anything, right?”

“No, Wild. Four would take no offense either way. He’s very understanding about these things, I promise.” Sky paused, considering his next words, then grinned. “I’m sure he would be happy to help you out, if you asked him to,” Sky whispered into his ear, giggling at Wild’s flustered reaction.

“But I don’t know any of you well enough for that!” Wild protested.

Sky shook his head. “Wild, sexual relations in a pack setting is much more casual than what I’m sure you’re used to. We care about you, Wild, so taking care of you is easy.”

Wild swallowed and turned to look over his shoulder at Four, appearing asleep under the covers.

“I don’t want to bother him…” Wild mumbled.

“He’s sure to wake up sooner or later.” The implications of those words had Wild blushing harder.

“I don’t want to wake him to that.

“I promise he wouldn’t mind. It wouldn’t be a first.”

Wild shook his head. “I think I need to hear him say that.”

“Okay,” Sky took Wild’s answer easily, “Would you like me to wake him for you?”

Wild didn’t answer, but he did reach out to lightly touch Four’s shoulder, then shake it with more confidence.

Four woke without much prodding, sitting up and scenting the air before looking at Wild with mild concern. “Another wave?” Sky nodded. “Do you need something, Wild? Do you want me to leave? Get something?”

Wild blushed at Four’s immediate concern for him, but he felt emboldened by his decision to ask Four directly what he felt about being with Wild right now. He took a moment, Sky squeezed his shoulder in encouragement, then he asked, “Four, I want you to stay, but I don’t want you to be uncomfortable.” Four nodded, but Wild felt like he didn’t fully get what he was implying. “I asked Sky to touch me, but I don’t want to do that yet if you don’t want to be here for it.” Four’s eyes widened a fraction, understanding Wild’s concern.

Four paused for just a moment, making eye contact with Wild before he replied, “Wild, I told you before that you are pack, and I am honored to support you. That applies for anything that you need. It was very thoughtful for you to ask me, though you did not need to.” Four took one of Wild’s hands without looking away from his face. “Just tell me what I can do for you.”

Wild looked down at their hands, nodding stiffly. He found tears springing from his eyes and gasped. He didn’t expect to cry at that.

“Wild, what’s wrong?” Sky pulled Wild into his lap, brushing the tears from his face.

Wild took some deep breaths, his heart clenching. “You guys are so nice, and I just-” Wild took a sharp breath in. “I don’t really know what to do about that?” Once the words were out, Wild couldn’t stop. His tears warped his voice and he wasn’t sure how much of what he was saying came across, but it was enough for Sky to hold him closer and for Four to take his other hand, rubbing his thumbs along the back of both of them.

It’s just so good to be cared for, and I didn’t really know that before? It’s like I’m feeling loss, even though you’re right here. Like I’m mourning what I didn’t have before, even though it didn’t hurt then. I just didn’t know what I was missing. I-

Wild took a deep breath in. He had been running out of air, the words spilling out so fast.

Four was the next one to speak. “I can understand how you feel, Wild. Even good feelings can be overwhelming.” Four brought Wild’s hands closer to himself. “I want you to take a deep breath and think about what you want right now. What can make you feel better right now?”

Under Four’s prompting, Wild’s attention was brought back to the problem between his legs. He pulled away enough to gesture to the wet spot underneath him, and both Four and Sky nodded in understanding.

“Who do you want to touch you right now, Wild?” Sky asked him as he pressed him down to lay on the mattress.

Wild’s voice failed him, and he let out a distressed whine.

“Do you want me to touch you?” Sky asked again as a yes or no question, and Wild answered with an enthusiastic nod.

“Do you want Four to touch you?” Wild hesitated a moment before nodding again.

“Can you show Four and I where you want us?” Sky held out his hands for Wild to take control of, and Four followed his example.

Wild took Sky’s hands and placed them low on his body. Sky’s fingers brushed Wild’s erection and Wild shuddered.

“Inside, like last time?” Sky confirmed with Wild, who nodded his head hard. Sky didn’t make Wild wait before he was moving his own hands with purpose, sending tingling pleasure through Wild’s whole body.

Wild then turned his attention to Four’s offered hands, grasping them with shaking hands as he reacted to Sky’s attention. He pulled Four’s hands to his chest and moved forward to press his nose into Four’s neck.

Four moved closer to Wild so that he didn’t have to strain. “I’m here. You’re okay, Wild.”

Four moved his hands in the cramped space between their bodies. “Tell me if you like this, okay?” Wild nodded shallowly as Four brushed his thumbs over his nipples. Wild shuddered as Four lightly pinched them between two fingers. “Wild?” Four checked in.

Wild let out a trill, burying ever further into Four’s neck. Four took that as the encouragement it was and continued his work at Wild’s chest.

At the same time, Sky had entered Wild, penetrating with just one careful finger. Wild keened at the slow pace, pushing himself onto Sky’s hand. Sky placed his other hand on Wild’s hip to still him. “Relax, Wild. Do you want more?”

Wild trilled loudly and started mouthing at Four’s neck. Sky took it as confirmation and added another finger, pressing into Wild firmly and deeply. Four allowed Wild to make a mess of his neck and shoulder, his hands continuing to explore Wild above the waist.

“You’re so wet, Wild. I’m sure you’d take Alpha so good,” Sky praised, “We love you so much, such a good omega.”

Wild involuntarily bucked his hips, and Sky redoubled his efforts. “You’re so good, Wild. Go ahead and let go for me.”

Four spoke again, his voice somewhat unexpected in Wild’s ear. “Cum for Omega, Wild.”

Wild would have never dreamt in a million years that he’d hear those words from Four, and they served as a catalyst for Wild’s release. He clenched down on Sky’s fingers, which continued to move, extending his pleasure. His jaw clenched at the same time, a moan was muffled by the skin of Four’s shoulder where Wild bit down.

“Good omega, Wild. You did so good for us,” Four praised as Sky was occupied with subtly pulling out of Wild and reaching for the washcloth Four had brought for them earlier. Four combed through Wild’s hair with his fingers as Sky cleaned the mess he made. Four pulled away from Wild at the waist so that Sky could clean there, and Wild trilled up at him in confusion. “I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere.” Four’s assurance was enough to make Wild drop his head to Four’s chest, purring contentedly.

“Can I take these for you?” Sky gestured to Four’s soiled pants.

“Yes please.” Four shifted to allow Sky to remove the pants for him, keeping Wild close to his chest.

Sky shuffled about for a moment more before Wild trilled out for Omega.

Wild was nearly asleep, but Sky answered the call either way. He settled down at Wild’s back, sandwiching him between Four and himself. Wild’s purs returned at Sky’s presence, and Sky sighed in relief as he drifted off to sleep.

“There is no way you can push off the title of pack Omega after this,” Four addressed Sky quietly, careful not to rouse Wild.

Sky groaned, but didn’t argue. He looked down at Wild sleeping peacefully in his and Four’s arms.

“You’re doing great, Omega,” Four whispered.

Sky smiled and looked up at him. “I’m glad you think so.”

The next time Wild woke up he was hungry.

It was a novel experience, considering he couldn’t remember how many days it had been since he felt anything other than the unnatural heat under his skin.

Speaking of, the heat was tangibly gone. Wild felt like he could jump for joy if he wasn’t so physically exhausted. It was a wonder he hadn’t fallen back asleep.

His stomach growled.

Oh, yeah. He was starving.

Wild groaned and blinked open his eyes. A chest covered with thin cloth filled his vision. He shifted to look up at Sky’s face. His eyes were closed, and Wild would bet he was still asleep.

He then noticed the cold air on his back. Four wasn’t there anymore.

As he more firmly entered the waking world, Wild shifted carefully to roll off of the mattress without waking Sky.

The tray of food Four had brought however long ago was gone, as well as the bowl and washcloth, but Wild didn’t know when those were moved. There was nothing new in the room and Wild didn’t see Four anywhere.

Wild was unsure of what his next action should be. His heat seemed to be over. Should he get dressed and leave to get breakfast? Should he move on as if it was business as usual? Wild couldn’t imagine that being possible after what had happened between him and Sky and Four. And Sky had been talking with Time at the beginning of his heat! Was Time upset? Surely everyone else knew what was happening. How would they react? Would they treat him differently now?

Apparently Wild’s breathing had become loud and erratic enough for Sky to stir under the covers. Wild was pulled out of his thoughts by Sky’s arm around his shoulders. “Wild,” Sky’s voice was deep with sleep, “What’s wrong, Wild?”

Wild sniffed, although there were no tears on his face. “What do I do now?” He asked Sky rather pathetically.

Sky squeezed his shoulders. “You don’t have to worry, Wild. Nothing bad is going to happen. What happens next, any changes that come with your presentation are under your control. We’re here to support you. No one wants you to feel stressed about this.” Sky paused, then snorted softly. “Though I can’t guarantee that Wars won’t become an insufferable flirt. Hyrule lets him get away with too much. You can tell me if you need me to tell him off, though!”

Wild laughed weakly at Sky’s words. “Okay. Will you keep playing with my hair?”

Sky blinked, then smiled. “I’d love to.”

Four came back with food not long after their conversation, and Wild asked if Four would continue to ease his anxieties with his words. Four swore he would, and Wild felt lighter.

After eating the much heftier meal than what he had eaten before, Wild mustered up the courage to ask about the others.

“They’re understandably worried. Legend and Ravio have been practically sitting on Hyrule to keep him from running down here.” Four huffed a laugh and Wild giggled. “You don’t have to worry about the alphas. Time’s already given them a talk , and I’ll punch Wars in his pretty face if he messes with you.” Wild’s giggles spiked in volume. “I’m sure he’ll back off if you tell him to, though. I’m mostly just poking at him.”

Wild nodded. “Thank-you, Four. I was kind of anxious to see everyone again. It felt like everything changed and I wasn’t sure if I wanted it to change out there or if I wanted to go through that door and forget this all ever happened.” Wild’s gaze found the door to the shared quarters as his voice became quieter and more sincere.

“Stuff’s changed, I suppose, but we’re still the same idiots you’ve been traveling with for a month,” Four assured him.

Wild nodded. “You are. I’m glad you are.”

Sky piped up from where he was acting as a chair back for Wild, “Does that mean you think we’re idiots?” Sky’s tone was playful, and Wild played along.

“Yes. It seems the line between courage and stupidity truly is thin.”

Four laughed in earnest at that, and Wild giggled at Sky’s dramatic pouting.

Four was completely right about the other heroes still being the same. Hyrule practically jumped him as soon as he entered the living room, asking if he was alright and offering him anything under the sun. Wild had to gently push him off, but conceded to let Hyrule nearly attach himself to his left arm.

Warriors made a comment on if Wild ‘had fun,’ and, true to their word, Sky and Four scolded and threatened him respectively. Wild could tell he was going for nonchalance, though. He didn’t want to overwhelm Wild with concern. Hyrule was doing that well enough for everyone.

Twilight was obviously holding himself back from sweeping Wild up in a crushing hug, so Wild put him out of his misery by initiating a hug of his own. Hyrule did not unstick from Wild’s arm for this, so he was pulled into Twilight’s arms right alongside Wild.

Time shared a look with Sky, somehow determining that he didn’t need to intervene by that look alone. Wild was a bit put off and was still worried that Time was unhappy, so he tucked himself against Sky’s side and quietly asked him if anything was wrong. Sky assured him it was fine. Time just wanted to know if he was okay.

Legend didn’t approach him or speak with any of the other heroes who were obviously worrying over him. He was on a couch with Ravio, who was whispering to him. Legend seemed to be acting irritated with him, shooting down his whispered words, but when he looked away from his mate, Wild swore he could see a smile on his face. Wild stopped looking over at him when they made brief eye-contact, though.

Wind seemed to be taking after Hyrule by the way he was pulling on Wild’s right hand, complaining about how he hadn’t had any good food with Wild out of commission. Wild promised to make him anything he’d like for their next meal. Wind let go of his hand to jump around the room, nearly running into just about every person there. He stopped in his tracks when Legend yelled at him, though. He stuck out his tongue at the older hero to communicate his displeasure.

Wild giggled at his antics and his heart calmed at seeing the heroes act so normal after how abnormal Wild would describe the last few days.

Wild set himself to making Wind’s choice of lunch, and Hyrule let him after asking repeatedly if he felt alright, if he wanted to rest, if he wanted help.

Wild narrowly avoided a kitchen disaster by placating Hyrule. Legend got as close to Wild as he had the whole time just to peel Hyrule away. Wild thanked him, appreciative of the space he was giving Wild, though Wild found he didn’t mind Legend’s proximity at all.

Cooking was the same as always thankfully, though Wild wasn’t overly worried about that changing. Other than maybe the scents of his fellow heroes affecting it? But Wild couldn’t really smell them right now anyway, especially now that Hyrule was no longer so close to him. Wild was concerned for a moment that his honey-sweet scent would stick to him forever with how Hyrule seemed to be bathing him in it.

He chuckled as he added spices to the soup broth, tasting it and finding it just right a moment later. He put the lid over the top of the pot and lowered the heat to a simmer before turning out of the kitchen to call the rest of the Chain for lunch.

It wasn’t long at all until another portal signaled that their time in this Hyrule was up. The chain said goodbye to Ravio, Hyrule scented him, and was scented in return, and Ravio seemed to catch Legend by surprise in order to steal a kiss from him. Warriors wolf-whistled at him, and Legend’s face tinted pink. He grabbed Hyrule and stomped through the portal before anyone could comment on that, though.

Wild hadn’t been able to spend much time with Ravio, despite the fact that he had been staying at his house, but Ravio still approached him to say goodbye and to wish him luck on his adventure.

“And don’t worry, Mister Hero’s free, if you’re interested.”

Wild looked at him curiously until understanding heated up his face. “Thanks, though I don’t think I am,” he managed to squeak out.

Ravio laughed at him, not unkindly. “Really, though. He’s got my seal of approval for a heat partner. He’s actually very soft.”

Wild nodded sincerely before Twilight tapped him. It was their turn to go through the portal.

Help I don’t know if that’s a good ending, but I have to stop before it gets away from me.
