It didn’t Remember falling asleep, but here It was.
Waking up in a shelter, cradling Egg close.
The gears ground loudly into Its brain as It waited for the doors to open.
It pulled Itself through the tunnel and stared at where It was.
It recognized nothing that was in front of It , but It started walking anyway.
A loud and sharp metallic birdy ran towards It , snipping angrily at It .
Green flashed, then purple and It clutched Egg and ran.
Its head pounded as Its paws thumped on the ground.
The birdies started catching up as It ran.
Its paws slipped as It ran under a large, metal beam.
Its brain jumbled and flashed hot with pain.
Everything looked wrong to It now.
This wasn’t where It had just been.
This wasn’t where It should have been.
It had just been…
Where had It just been?
Somewhere bright?
Then dark?
Then here?
No.
It had been somewhere warm.
With many other It’s .
Those It’s had made It leave.
Maybe.
It wasn’t sure.
What It was sure of was Egg .
Egg would hatch soon.
Right?
The other It’s had called It delusional.
Egg would hatch one day.
And It would be there for Egg .
It smiled at the thought of Egg running around and playing with It .
So sweet, Egg was.
Its dearest little Egg .
Water was not good for Egg .
Water made Egg cold.
It also didn’t like water.
It thought Egg liked Strange Blue .
Strange Blue held Egg so gently.
It felt terrible pains and convulsions when It tried to walk.
It shook and trembled on the ground.
It felt red and hot water run down It’s back.
It had once known what that red and hot water was.
It couldn’t Remember .
It was waking in another shelter.
ANOTHER ?
When had It been in another shelter?
Was Egg with it ?
Egg was cradled close.
Egg safe.
It climbed down, then up.
Up,
up ,
UP.
Why was It going up?
It didn’t know why.
All It knew was Egg needed to go up.
It didn’t know the reason.
The voice said so, said that Egg needed to go up high into the clouds.
Up into a box.
Up to a God.
It climbed and climbed.
It fell and jumbled a few times, but It kept climbing.
Gravity was wrong.
It floated instead of stepping.
It crashed into the walls so much in the strange tunnel.
It lost Egg a few times.
It panicked when Egg floated away.
Strange Pink glared down at It .
Strange Pink said It was a miserable creature.
Stuck in an endless cycle.
It held up Egg for Strange Pink .
Strange Pink crushed Egg .
Small shell bits floated around the closed fist.
It woke up.
Without Egg .
Egg was gone.
Nothing mattered.
It wanted Egg back.
Dearest little Egg .
Its world was bleak without Egg .
Nothing mattered.
The Tall Things stared down as It walked.
It walked carelessly.
It walked sadly.
It meandered from place to place.
My Egg .
Was Its last thought as the Tall Thing slammed It into the ground.
Again.
Again .
AGAIN .
It didn’t REMEMBER falling asleep, but here It was.
WAKING UP in a shelter, cradling EGG close.
