A vague message in a voice not belonging to the glowing, alternate timeline version of the only girl he’s ever loved? That was too much for most to understand. “I still don’t know who you are or who Isha even is- let alone how to save her… Why are you telling me all of this?”
“Because we won,” The voice said as Powder’s smile fell. “And yet we lost nearly everything… I’m telling you this because at least one of us should be happy in the end.”

“He saved Isha,” Jinx’s voice was thick, but she tried not to cry. Crying wouldn’t Ekko. “I don’t know…I don’t know what would’ve happened if she died because of me,”

“He can’t die,” Scooting closer to him on the bed, she laid the damp rag on his forehead. “He can’t die- not before…” ‘ Not before I say thank you; not before I say I’m sorry…not before he knows that we’re still family. ’ “Isha drew on his casts,” Looking down at Ekko’s uncovered leg, Vi saw that it was littered with childish drawings in Jinx’s favorite colors. “She’s such a baby- she’ll cry if he dies before he sees it, so he can’t die, okay?”
Vi swallowed, blinking back tears at her sister’s poorly veiled worry. “Okay,” She said with a nod. “He won’t die…no one else dies…I promise.”
