Summary
Isla Sorrengail didn’t grow up among her so-called family. After a brutal beginning shaped by betrayal, she was cast aside and vanished across the world—raised not in Navarre, but in the shadows of Gotham, as Isabelle Wayne. There, in a city ruled by darkness and justice, she became a force no one could control.
Years later—after yet another war ripped away what little she had left—Isla set out in search of the truth, chasing the hope of a second chance and the family she never knew. But what she found was far more than bloodlines and old names.
She stepped into a kingdom at war, where fragile human alliances with dragons were all that stood between survival and extinction, where monsters called the Venin stirred beneath the surface, and where her very existence was a threat.
And in the middle of it all? A wingleader with secrets as deep as her own. Off-limits, infuriating, impossible—and maybe the only person who truly saw her.
But Isla doesn’t break.
She doesn’t run.
And this time, she’s not losing anyone she loves. Not again. Not ever.

“We’re not discussing this here,” Bodhi mutters.
“Why not?” I ask, calm. “Because someone might hear? Someone like me? Well, too late. ”
Xaden’s voice cuts in, smoother than before. “Enough.”
Bodhi falls quiet. Garrick bites the inside of his cheek but nods.
I look up at Xaden, defiant. “I’m not here to fight you.”
“I know,” he says.
The simplicity of it throws me. No suspicion. No demand. Just quiet certainty.
“And you’re not going to pretend you don’t need allies,” I say. “You’re too smart for that.”
“I don’t pretend.”
“Good.” I let the tension hang there, and then: “So. Where are we going?”
Garrick snaps his head around. “What?”
“You’re clearly heading somewhere. And now I am too.”
Bodhi mutters, “You can’t be serious.”
“If you have nothing to hide, you don't need to worry, but if you do,” I say, “I want to know what it is.”
“And if we’re not hiding anything?” Garrick asks.
“Then I’ll find that out too.”
Bodhi’s hand starts drifting toward his weapon again, and again, Xaden raises his hand—not aggressive. Just final.
She’s not the threat, that hand says.
I watch the motion. Let it sink in.
“Let her come,” Xaden says simply.
It’s not a request.
The other two fall silent.
I smile. Not just because I’ve won—but because the rules just changed.
