It’s much like being a child, counting the seconds as you hold your breath underwater; baiting your burning lungs, testing them before you’re forced to resurface. It’s not quite like drowning, but it’s also not dissimilar. The stubborn thing holding you down here is not the waves, it is your own conviction.
Regulus Black has always been stubborn. As much as he may deny it, it’s as ingrained in his bones as The Black Family Madness. As he grew up, he continued to test how long he could hold his breath for; how long he could slip under the surface of reality, existing only within himself.
