His eyes widen, but he immediately screws them shut and hides his face in his robe—he doesn’t want to see what he knows lies in his reflection.
His present. His future. The way he was always going to turn out, and the way he would always be. His Truth. He will always turn his eyes away from it. He doesn’t want to see his lifeless expression again, doesn’t want to see the clothes he’s been made to wear. Doesn’t want to face himself.
