Summary:

There was something about Chaewon that always managed to infuriate her. Maybe it was the way she constantly challenged her for the top academic spot in their year, turning every lesson and assignment into an unspoken competition. Or perhaps it was her polished demeanor, that effortless poise that only someone born into privilege could pull off.

Yunjin wasn't sure, but something about Chaewon grated on her nerves like nails on a chalkboard.

It didn't help that Chaewon barely acknowledged her existence in their shared classes.

It was as if Yunjin was invisible, unworthy of even the smallest flicker of attention.

That indifference stung more than Yunjin cared to admit.

Chapter 1: welcome back

Chapter Text

Yunjin stood at the entrance of the bustling train station, her heart a mix of excitement and apprehension. The platform was filled with students and families, the energy palpable as everyone prepared for their journey to Hogwarts. But in the midst of the excitement, it was her own parents-Jihyo and Sana-who commanded her attention.

Her two mothers, standing side by side, were giving her their last-minute advice, though they had been giving it to her for weeks now. Jihyo, the calm and composed one, smiled warmly, her eyes full of quiet reassurance.
Sana, on the other hand, was a whirlwind of anxious energy, her hands wringing together as she fussed over every detail.

"Yunjin," Jihyo said, her voice steady and soothing, "remember to eat, okay? Don't skip meals, even if you get busy. It's important to take care of yourself."

Yunjin nodded, the weight of her mother's words sinking in. "I'll make sure to eat," she promised. "And I'll write to you both often, I swear."

Sana immediately chimed in, her voice tight with worry. "And don't forget to take breaks, sweetheart. Hogwarts can be overwhelming sometimes, so make sure you're taking care of yourself. And don't stay up too late studying, okay?"

Yunjin chuckled softly, the corners of her lips lifting despite the anxiety swirling in her chest. "I'll try not to, Mom. But I can't make any promises with all the homework they'll give me."

Jihyo gave her a knowing look. "Don't push yourself too hard. If anything, you can always ask for help."

Yunjin looked down at the small bundle she held in her arms-Aegon, her grey Scottish Fold cat, who meowed softly and nuzzled his chin. She smiled. "Aegon will keep me company," she added. "We'll be fine."

Sana's eyes softened at the sight of the cat. "Make sure Aegon gets plenty of rest too. You know he's going to be adjusting to all of it, just like you."

"I will," Yunjin assured her, tucking the cat into her jacket with one hand. "But I promise, I'll be okay. Hogwarts is going to be amazing."

Jihyo placed a hand on Yunjin's shoulder, squeezing it gently. "We know you will. We're so proud of you, Yunjin. And remember, we'll always be here if you need us."

Sana nodded, her voice trembling slightly. "Just... write often, okay? And keep us updated. Don't forget us."

"I won't forget," Yunjin said, her voice steady as she gave both of them a hug. "I'll be back before you know it."

With one last glance at her parents, Yunjin boarded the train, Aegon tucked safely in her lap. As the train began to pull out of the station, she waved at her mothers, who were standing together, both smiling, though Sana's eyes shimmered with unshed tears.

-

Yunjin leaned back against her seat, feeling the weight of nostalgia pressing on her chest. The rhythmic clattering of the train against the tracks was oddly comforting, but it didn't quite quiet the swirl of emotions within her. As the train slowly pulled away from the station, her gaze lingered out the window. The figures of Jihyo and Sana, her ever-supportive and caring mothers, became smaller and smaller, swallowed by the horizon. The lump in her throat grew as she watched them disappear from sight. She had always been loved unconditionally-her moms had always known exactly what she needed. Jihyo's calm guidance, Sana's never-ending care... it was hard to leave that behind, every time ,even knowing it was just for a little while.

She could feel the warmth of their love wrapped around her like a blanket, and though she was eager to start this new year, a part of her wished she could have held onto that feeling just a little longer.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the sudden, lively voices around her. Kazuha and Eunchae had joined her in the compartment, filling the space with an easy, playful energy. Eunchae, bouncing on her heels, was talking animatedly about her excitement for her first year at Hogwarts, her eyes sparkling with pure joy. Yunjin couldn't help but smile as Eunchae's enthusiasm was contagious.

"Are you sure you're ready for all the magic? It's a lot to handle, you know," Yunjin teased, raising an eyebrow in playful challenge. She had to admit, there was something endearing about the younger girl's nervous excitement, even if it made her feel like she was getting old.

Eunchae grinned, completely undeterred by the teasing. "Of course I am! Hogwarts is going to be amazing!"

Kazuha, sitting beside her, rolled her eyes but smiled fondly at her little sister. "She's been talking about it non-stop for weeks," she muttered under her breath, though there was a soft exasperation in her tone.

Yunjin couldn't help but laugh as the two sisters began to bicker. Eunchae, oblivious to her sister's irritation, kept babbling about how much she'd already read about Hogwarts, while Kazuha tried to settle down, clearly less enthusiastic about the whole "little sister following her around everywhere" thing.

"Come on, Kazuha, let her be excited!" Yunjin teased again, watching the interaction with amusement.

As the two continued their playful back-and-forth, Yunjin felt the tension in her chest slowly loosen, a genuine smile returning to her face.
Her thoughts drifted briefly to her parents again, but this time, instead of sadness, it was filled with gratitude. She would miss them, yes. But she knew they'd always be there, and she wasn't as alone as she sometimes felt.

-

Eunchae's excitement didn't wane for a second, not during the entire train ride, and certainly not when they finally boarded the boats to cross the Black Lake. She was practically vibrating with energy, eyes wide in awe as she pointed at everything she could see, her voice ringing out with exclamations of excitement.

"Look, unnie! There's the castle! I can't believe we're actually here! It's huge, and-oh my gosh, the lake is so dark, is that normal? I've read about it, but wow, it's even more amazing than I imagined!"

Kazuha, who had already been bearing the brunt of her sister's nonstop chatter during the train ride, sat next to her with a patient but increasingly strained expression. She was trying to maintain her calm demeanor, but it was clear that Eunchae's enthusiasm was starting to wear on her.

"Eunchae, please, just a little quiet for five minutes," Kazuha sighed  as she leaned back against the side of the boat, eyes closed in an attempt to regain some peace.

But Eunchae wasn't dissuaded in the least. She leaned forward in her seat, her hands gripping the edge of the boat as she took in the view of the towering castle. "I read that the lake is enchanted, did you know that?"

Yunjin couldn't help but smile at the younger girl's excitement. There was something incredibly refreshing about her unfiltered wonder, even if it was a little exhausting to be the audience. But seeing Eunchae so thrilled reminded her of the joy in new beginnings. It made the whole journey feel more magical, and she found herself commenting every now and then, adding to the conversation with a soft laugh.

"It's definitely real, don't worry," Yunjin chimed in, glancing over at Kazuha with a teasing smile.

Eunchae's eyes practically sparkled at the idea, and she leaned closer to the edge of the boat, her gaze following the ripples in the water as the boat continued its journey towards the castle.

"So," Eunchae began, turning to Yunjin and Kazuha with an eager expression, "what house do you think I'll be in? I mean, I know we don't get to choose, but if you had to guess..."

Kazuha, with her usual sarcastic tone, let out a dramatic sigh, crossing her arms. "Well, I hope not mine," she said, glancing at her younger sister with a smirk. "I don't think I can handle that much enthusiasm in one house."

Eunchae rolled her eyes, unfazed. "I'm not that bad," she huffed, but it was clear she was enjoying the teasing.

Yunjin, who had been quietly observing the banter, smiled gently and gave her opinion. "Honestly, Eunchae," she said thoughtfully, "I think you might end up in Slytherin. You're kinda of a menace."

Eunchae blinked, looking a little surprised at Yunjin's suggestion, but then her eyes lit up, a mischievous smile forming on her lips. "Slytherin, huh?" she said with a gleam in her eye. "Well, if I get sorted into Slytherin, maybe I'll end up being the one to challenge you for top marks."

Yunjin chuckled, her smile widening as she met Eunchae's gaze. "I don't mind a little competition," she teased, "but you'd have to work pretty hard to catch up."

Kazuha gave a playful scoff. "Just wait until she realizes what being in Slytherin actually means," she said, clearly amused by the thought of her little sister navigating the ambitious house.

Eunchae, however, wasn't deterred. "I'll take on anything," she declared confidently, her usual energy returning.

Yunjin watched Eunchae with a soft smile.

-

The Great Hall was nothing short of magnificent, even after years of seeing it. The enchanted ceiling mirrored the night sky outside, scattered with twinkling stars and a sliver of the crescent moon, while the floating candles bathed the room in a warm, golden glow. Four long tables stretched across the hall, each marked with their respective house banners-Gryffindor's scarlet and gold, Ravenclaw's blue and bronze, Hufflepuff's yellow and black, and Slytherin's emerald and silver. The excited chatter of students filled the space as everyone settled in, eager for the Sorting Ceremony to begin.

Yunjin adjusted her freshly pressed Ravenclaw robes, the crisp blue and bronze fabric a stark contrast to the soft, glowing light of the Hall. She spotted Kazuha at the Hufflepuff table, looking calm and composed as always, though Yunjin noticed her glancing toward the line of first-years with a hint of nervousness.

The first-years, including Eunchae, were gathered near the front of the Hall. Eunchae stood out immediately, her wide eyes darting around the room, taking in every detail of the enchanted space. Yunjin could practically feel her excitement from across the room, her little figure practically bouncing on the balls of her feet.

Dumbledore stood at the head of the room, his long silver beard gleaming in the candlelight. His presence commanded attention, and as he raised his hands, the room fell into a respectful silence. His warm voice echoed through the Hall as he welcomed the students to a new year at Hogwarts. Though Yunjin had heard this speech several times before, it still filled her with a sense of awe and anticipation.

"And now," Dumbledore concluded, gesturing toward the ancient, worn Sorting Hat placed on a stool at the front of the Hall, "let us begin the Sorting Ceremony."

The Sorting Hat came to life, its tattered brim moving as it launched into its traditional song, weaving tales of the four houses and the qualities they sought in their students. When the song ended, the Hall broke into applause before McGonagall stepped forward, unfurling a long parchment with the names of the first-years.

One by one, the new students approached the stool, each met with cheers from their respective new houses. Finally, it was Eunchae's turn. Her name rang out clearly in the Hall, and Yunjin straightened in her seat, watching as the younger girl confidently approached the stool.

Eunchae's tiny frame almost disappeared under the oversized Sorting Hat as it was placed on her head. Yunjin couldn't hear the hat's musings, but Eunchae's expression shifted slightly-first curious, then excited-as the hat made its decision.

"SLYTHERIN!" the hat boomed.

The Slytherin table erupted into cheers and applause, welcoming their newest member with open arms. Eunchae beamed as she removed the hat and hopped off the stool, practically skipping toward the Slytherin table.

Yunjin, however, felt her stomach drop. She turned to the Hufflepuff table and immediately locked eyes with Kazuha, who looked equally concerned. They exchanged a silent, worried glance, both knowing exactly what the other was thinking.

Still, Yunjin forced a smile as Eunchae waved enthusiastically at her from across the Hall, already seated among her new housemates. Perhaps she would thrive in Slytherin, but Yunjin couldn't shake the feeling that they'd need to keep a close eye on her.

Plates and goblets magically filled with an endless array of food and drinks, the comforting aroma of roast meats, fresh bread, and sweet desserts wafting through the air. Despite the feast laid before her, Yunjin's attention was divided, her mind flipping between her newly purchased book and the animated conversation of her housemates.

She had been eager to dive into her copy of "Advanced Transfiguration: Beyond the Basics", a book she had saved for the train ride but hadn't had the chance to open. With a small sigh, Yunjin turned a page, nibbling absentmindedly on a slice of buttered bread. The text pulled her in momentarily-diagrams of wand movements, theories about magical transformation, and the intricacies of cross-species spells-but the lively voices of Minji and Dani sitting across from her kept dragging her back to the present.

"I'm telling you, Minji," Dani said, her hands flailing dramatically as her fork hovered mid-air, "the Leaky Cauldron has the best butterbeer. Nothing else compares. I don't know why people even try to say the Three Broomsticks comes close."

Minji rolled her eyes, unimpressed. "Oh, please. Have you even been to the Magical Menagerie in Diagon Alley? Now that's an experience. There's this enchanted window where you can see into a miniature dragon habitat! It's fascinating."

Dani scoffed. "Yeah, well, I'll take a warm butterbeer over a magical window any day."

Yunjin let out a soft chuckle under her breath, glancing up from her book. Minji and Dani were always bickering about something, and though Yunjin didn't always jump into their conversations, their antics were a comforting constant in her Hogwarts routine.

"Didn't you go to the Menagerie this summer too, Yunjin?" Minji suddenly asked, turning to her.

Yunjin tilted her head thoughtfully. "I did. It was fascinating, I'll admit. They had this phoenix egg on display-apparently, it's enchanted to show the fire cycle of the phoenix in slow motion. You could actually see the rebirth process happening in real-time."

Minji's eyes widened, her competitive streak flaring. "See, Dani? That's the kind of thing you can't get from a butterbeer."

Dani waved her hand dismissively.

Yunjin smirked, shaking her head.

Their playful banter continued as Yunjin let her focus drift between the enchanting details of her book and the cheerful camaraderie around her. Even as she kept an ear out for their conversation, she found herself absently wondering how Eunchae was faring at her new house. Surely, her energy had already made an impression there.

Yunjin's gaze wandered lazily across the Slytherin table, where emerald-green ties and glistening silver accents marked the pride of the house. Her eyes drifted over the sea of students before coming to a halt on a familiar figure.

Chaewon.

Her cold gaze was sharp as ever, meeting Yunjin's for just a fleeting moment before flickering back to her conversation with Jimin, another Slytherin who always seemed to hover around her like a loyal shadow. Those few seconds were enough to ignite something in Yunjin, a spark of irritation, a heat that simmered beneath her composed exterior.

Her thoughts spiraled as she kept glancing at Chaewon. The girl's new haircut caught her eye, its sleek Oreo-toned strands framing her sharp features perfectly. It suited her, Yunjin begrudgingly thought, softening her usually intimidating aura just a bit.

But what good was looking pretty when your personality was so insufferable?

Yunjin tore her gaze away, annoyed at herself for even noticing. She had more important things to focus on like her studies, her friendships, her new book that was begging for her attention. Yet, somewhere in the back of her mind, she couldn't shake the lingering frustration that Chaewon always seemed to evoke.

She took a deep breath and turned back to Minji and Dani, pretending she hadn't just been distracted. But even as she joined their conversation, her thoughts remained tangled up in the girl across the hall.

-

Yunjin despised Potions with every fiber of her being. The dark, dreary dungeon classroom reeked of damp stone and sour herbs, only amplifying her disdain for the subject. It didn't help that Potions was one of the few classes shared with the Slytherins-a detail that, on its own, was more than enough to ruin her day. Worse still was the favoritism of Professor Snape, who seemed to regard the Slytherin students as his personal protégés while dismissing everyone else as incompetent.

But not Chaewon.

Even Yunjin had to admit, begrudgingly, that Chaewon was different. She wasn't one of the bumbling idiots Snape doted on out of blind house loyalty.
Chaewon was actually... good.
No, scratch that-she was brilliant. Her sharp focus, precise movements, and the quiet confidence with which she brewed potions made it impossible for even someone like Snape to overlook her talent.

Yunjin often found herself stealing glances in Chaewon's direction during class, watching the way her hands moved deftly as she added ingredients with pinpoint accuracy. There was a calmness to her demeanor that was both irritating and, though Yunjin would never admit it, fascinating.

What could she possibly find so enthralling about this dreadful subject? Yunjin thought, scowling as she stirred her cauldron with no real enthusiasm. No matter how much effort she put into Potions, it was one subject where she knew she would never outrank Chaewon. And the thought of it gnawed at her.

The fact that Chaewon seemed to love Potions only added salt to the wound. It was as if the subject itself had conspired to torment Yunjin. Yet, even in her annoyance, she couldn't help but wonder what it was that made Chaewon's eyes light up ever so slightly during these lessons.

-

Yunjin sat cross legged on her bed, her open Transfiguration textbook lying forgotten in her lap. Across the room, Minji was sprawled on her own bed, flicking her wand lazily to levitate a set of enchanted marbles that bobbed and danced in the air. The faint clinking noise they made was oddly soothing, but Yunjin barely noticed it. She was too deep in thought.

Her mind kept circling back to Eunchae. A first year, bright-eyed and brimming with excitement, now placed among a house known for its cunning and ambition. Yunjin had nothing against Slytherin (well, aside from certain members) but the thought of Eunchae navigating her way through a sea of sneaky, sharp-tongued peers was enough to make her stomach twist.

She sighed for what felt like the two-hundredth time that night, her fingers unconsciously tracing the spine of her book. "What if they're mean to her? Or worse, what if she picks up their bad habits?" she muttered under her breath, her gaze drifting to the softly glowing lantern by her bedside.

Minji glanced up from her game, raising an eyebrow. "You're sighing so much it's making me tired," she teased, her tone light. She sent one of the marbles spinning in a playful arc toward Yunjin, who batted it away absentmindedly.

"Sorry," Yunjin replied, though her voice lacked its usual energy. She tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear and leaned back against the headboard. "I just can't stop worrying about Eunchae. She's so young, and Slytherin can be... tough."

Minji chuckled softly, sitting up and letting the marbles clatter to the floor. "You're really fretting over this, huh? Look, she's Kazuha's little sister, right? If she's even half as resilient as Kazuha, she'll be fine."

"Maybe," Yunjin conceded, though the crease in her brow didn't disappear. "But Kazuha isn't there with her all the time. What if-"

"Stop spiraling," Minji cut in with a grin. "Eunchae's a firecracker. She'll probably end up running the place in no time."

Yunjin couldn't help but smile faintly at that, though her thoughts remained tangled. As much as she admired Eunchae's energy and confidence, she couldn't shake the nagging worry that the youngest might struggle to find her footing among her housemates.

Letting out another long sigh, Yunjin flopped back onto her bed. "I just hope she's okay."

Minji rolled her eyes fondly and flicked another marble in Yunjin's direction. "You're going to give yourself wrinkles worrying this much. Relax. She's tougher than you think."

Yunjin closed her eyes, trying to take Minji's advice. But deep down, she knew she wouldn't stop worrying-not until she saw Eunchae thriving with her own eyes.

-

It took Yunjin an entire week to find a moment to sit down with Eunchae. Between her packed schedule of classes and studying, and Eunchae's newfound Slytherin social life, it seemed impossible to pin the younger girl down for even a few minutes. But finally, during a rare lull in the chaos, Yunjin managed to catch her after lunch near the greenhouses.

"Eunchae!" Yunjin called, jogging to catch up to the first-year, who was skipping along with her usual boundless energy.

The younger girl turned, her face lighting up at the sight of Yunjin. "Unnie!" she chirped, practically bouncing on her toes.

Yunjin couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm, though her heart still held a sliver of worry. "Hey, got a minute? Thought we could catch up."

Eunchae nodded eagerly. "Of course! What's up?"

Yunjin led her to a quiet bench under the shade of a tree, away from the bustling students. She took a seat and gestured for Eunchae to do the same.

"So," Yunjin began, keeping her tone light, "how's everything going in Slytherin? Settling in okay?"

Eunchae's eyes sparkled as she launched into an animated recounting of her first week. "It's amazing! Our common room is so cool, it's under the lake, you know? The walls are all this dark green and silver, and you can see shadows of the merpeople swimming past sometimes! Oh, and the older students are so nice to me. They've been showing me all the shortcuts around the castle. Did you know there's a secret passage near the kitchens?"

Yunjin blinked, momentarily stunned by the sheer excitement radiating off Eunchae. This wasn't the timid, overwhelmed first-year she had imagined. "That's... great," she said, her voice tinged with surprise. "No one's giving you a hard time, right ?"

Eunchae shook her head vigorously. "Not at all! Everyone's super friendly. Even the professors have been really nice. Snape even said I have potential in potions!"

Yunjin raised an eyebrow, unable to hide her disbelief. "Snape? Nice? Are we talking about the same Snape?"

Eunchae giggled. "I swear, unnie! He's not so bad if you actually pay attention in his class. And guess what? I even made friends with Chaewon-unnie!"

Yunjin nearly choked. "Chaewon?" she repeated, her voice a mix of shock and something she couldn't quite place.

"Yeah!" Eunchae said brightly. "She's super cool. She gave me some tips on how to handle Snape during lessons. And she even helped me practice a tricky charm last night!"

Yunjin's stomach twisted, though she couldn't figure out why. "Well, I'm glad you're doing okay," she said, forcing a smile.

Eunchae beamed. "Better than okay! I love it here. It's even better than I imagined."

Watching the younger girl practically glow with happiness, Yunjin felt a wave of relief wash over her. Eunchae was thriving, there was no denying that. Still, the mention of Chaewon lingered in her mind like an uninvited guest.

"Alright," Yunjin said, standing up and ruffling Eunchae's hair affectionately. "Keep doing well, and let me know if you need anything, okay?"

Eunchae nodded enthusiastically. "Will do, unnie! See you later!"

As Yunjin walked away, she couldn't help but glance back at Eunchae, who had already darted off, humming a cheerful tune. She smiled to herself. Maybe Minji had been right after all-Eunchae really could handle anything.

Still, the image of Chaewon helping Eunchae stuck with her longer than she cared to admit.

-

The night was alive with the crisp chill of early autumn, and the air buzzed with excitement as Yunjin and her friends made their way toward Hogsmeade. For the first time, they didn't have to sneak around or wait for a scheduled weekend outing-they were 18 now, and with that came the freedom to venture beyond the castle walls whenever they pleased. It felt liberating, almost rebellious, and the group was ready to make the most of it.

Kazuha walked ahead with Sakura, her soft voice carrying on the breeze as they chatted. Yunjin couldn't help but notice how Kazuha's gaze lingered just a little too long on Sakura's face, how her cheeks flushed with every laugh. If Kazuha wasn't completely obvious about her feelings before, she certainly was now.

Trailing behind them, Minji and Dani were locked in their usual playful banter, teasing each other about their Defense Against the Dark Arts essays. Their laughter mingled with the chatter of the group as they passed the cobblestone streets of the village.

"Can you believe we're actually out here without sneaking around?" Minji said, grinning at Yunjin.

Yunjin chuckled, adjusting her cloak. "Don't get too comfortable. The professors probably have spies in every corner of this village."

"Oh, stop," Dani said with a mock eye-roll. "Let us enjoy the moment before you start a conspiracy theory."

The group soon reached The Three Broomsticks, where the Gryffindor trio-Yuqi, Minnie, and Miyeon-were already waiting for them at a corner table. Yuqi waved them over enthusiastically, practically bouncing in her seat.

"Finally!" Yuqi exclaimed. "Thought you lot got lost on the way here."

"Blame Kazuha," Minji teased as they slid into their seats. "She kept stopping to stare at-"

"Don't you dare," Kazuha interrupted, her ears turning pink as she shot Minji a glare.

Sakura, seemingly oblivious to the exchange, smiled politely and handed Kazuha a butterbeer. "Here, you must be thirsty after walking so much."

Yunjin stifled a laugh as Kazuha stammered out a thank you, her face now fully red. Dani leaned over to Yunjin, whispering, "I'm betting five Galleons she confesses by the end of the month."

"You're on," Yunjin whispered back, smirking.

Back in her dormitory, the warm glow of the common room fire gave way to the cool stillness of her shared bedroom. Minji and Danielle, a little tipsy from the butterbeer, had wasted no time collapsing onto their beds. The sound of their soft snores filled the room within minutes.

Yunjin sighed, slipping out of her cloak and draping it over the back of a chair. As she sat on her bed, her gaze fell to Aegon's small space under her bed, a cozy little nook she had carefully arranged with a blanket.

"Come here, Aegon," she whispered, leaning down.

The grey Scottish Fold stretched lazily before padding over to her, his fur glinting like silver in the moonlight streaming through the window. She scooped him up, letting his warmth settle into her lap as she gently ran her fingers through his soft coat.

"You're so cute, you know that?" she murmured with a small smile as Aegon purred contentedly.

Reaching for her writing supplies, Yunjin pulled out a piece of parchment and her favorite quill. The ink glided across the page as she began to write a letter to her moms.

Dear Moms,

I hope both of you are doing well. Hogwarts has been busy as always, but I'm doing okay so don't worry too much.

Eunchae got sorted into Slytherin, can you believe it? I wasn't sure how she'd feel about it, but she's actually thriving. She's so excited about everything, I think she's already made a few friends.

Tonight, I went out to Hogsmeade with the girls. It was nice to have a break and just enjoy ourselves. I promise I didn't do anything reckless-no sneaking into the Forbidden Forest or anything like that.

Aegon is doing well too, he's curled up in my lap right now, probably wondering why I'm up so late.

I miss you both so much. I'll try to write more often.

Take care of each other, and don't forget to eat properly (yes, I'm telling you that for once).

I love you.

Yunjin set the quill down and folded the letter neatly, placing it in an envelope to send off in the morning. She glanced at Aegon, who blinked up at her with sleepy eyes, as if approving her words.

Lying back on her bed, she cradled Aegon close to her chest. The rhythmic sound of his purring filled the room, soothing her as she drifted off to sleep.
