Chapter Text
As the morning light makes its way through the round window of their dorm, Wednesday, for the first time, doesn’t wake up with her arms crossed over her chest. Instead, her arms are wrapped around Enid, who is snoring like a wolf.
Wednesday’s blood has clotted from last night, but the memory is fresh. She wishes she could spend all day in bed like this.
But that’s when the principal knocks on their dorm door. The principal - Wednesday’s mother.
Wednesday shoots up, frantically trying to awaken Enid.
Shit, shit, shit!
Why is she such a heavy sleeper?! (She isn’t usually, but she felt perfectly safe, comfortable, and exhausted last night for some reason…)
The doorknob turns slowly.
Wednesday pulls the blanket over Enid in hopes of hiding her. Think of excuses! They switched beds because they were so confused from tiredness last night! No, Wednesday would be breaking out with her color allergy!
The door cracks open slowly…
Wednesday glares at Thing, who she totally forgot was staying in his little house in their dorm. Don’t sign a word, dude!
Morticia glances around the room when the door fully opens.
Wednesday holds her breath and does her best to hold a blank expression. “Mother.” She greets.
“Darling, do you know where Enid is? I looked for her in the lupin cages and didn’t see her. I’m worried she turned again after all of the fuss…”
Wednesday focuses all of her energy on not side-eyeing Enid. Her mother is perceptive and that would be a dead giveaway.
Wednesday lies, “Enid slept in her bed last night, mother. She must have gotten up early and went on a morning stroll. You know how she loves the sun.”
Morticia responds, “Yes, it’s quite dreadful if you ask me. Well then, as long as she’s safe. Wouldn’t want any more tragedies occurring on this campus.” She turns to leave.
Wednesday lets out a breath.
Her mother turns back around, eyeing her daughter. “Is everything alright, dear? I noticed you seem less pale than usual. Did something happen to bring color to your cheeks?”
Shiiiiit. “Just the rush of a near-death experience at prom, mother.” She holds her breath again.
Morticia seems to buy it and leaves.
Wednesday relaxes. But she stiffens again when Enid wakes up.
Enid is usually the early bird, the morning person waking up with the sun. But today, her hair is a mess and she rubs her sleepy eyes.
Wednesday can’t look away from her adorable…from her…what are they, exactly?
Did last night really change anything? Or was it just a blip, and they’ll go back to normal now?
For some reason that thought sends chills through Wednesday. And not in a good way.
