Summary
The Eikons are there to shape humanity along the lines of which Ultima desires. To make them malleable, to remind them of their folly of defying God. Eikons are cursed to live mortal lives, in flesh prisons, free only for the briefest of moments.
Ultima made their Eikons the symbols of its reign, confident that its creations would be obedient to the end.
A shame, then, that Ultima shaped them to guide humanity, to desire their shackles and limits unbound, and abandoned its Eikons. In absence of the divine, where else was one to go? After all, if they were damned, at least then that damnation came with the taste of freedom.
