Chapter Text
"Mom! Lucifer's here." Chloe was clearing up the kitchen after dinner. She called back, "he was probably just driving past Monkey." She supposed Trixie would recognise the corvette, but there was no reason for Lucifer to randomly turn up. "No Mommy, he's here in the living room."
"What?" She popped her head round the corner and there he was, taking a wary step back from her daughter.
She came out of the kitchen wiping her hands on a towel. "Trixie, you know not to open the door at night."
"I didn't. Lucifer just came in." She sighed. "Again Lucifer, really?" He gave her a bright smile. "Good evening Detective. We have important business to discuss."
She blinked. Had she forgotten something? Their last case had been very straightforward. There were no problems. No, she couldn't think of anything. She could chastise him for breaking in again, but really, what was the point? "Okay, do you want a coffee?"
"Very kind, thank you."
Chloe busied herself making coffee. Lucifer settled himself on a stool at the breakfast bar. "What's this business then?" She set a cup in front of him which he promptly topped up from his flask. "Our anniversary," he said simply, as though it should be obvious. "Our what now?"
"Our anniversary," he said without missing a beat. "Now I would just like to check your preferred date." Chloe opened and shut her mouth, momentarily lost for words. "Lucifer, couples have anniversaries. We are not a couple."
"No, not yet. However I am confident you will be unable to resist me for ever." He looked at her as if this was a universally acknowledged inevitability. She narrowed her eyes at him. Their silence was filled by Trixie's giggles.
"Have you finished your homework Trix?"
"I just need to colour in my tiger drawing."
"Okay sweetie, you go do that while I talk to Lucifer." She took her things over to the coffee table and set to work. Art was her favourite homework assignment. "Lucifer, I told you I will never sleep with you," Chloe said in a low voice that her daughter wouldn't overhear. "I know what you said but this is something different." She sighed. "Alright, go on then. Explain."
"Lovely."
"We've been working together for almost a year. I think that's worth celebrating."
"Partners don't normally do that."
"Yes, but we are not normal partners. We have the most spectacular solve rate in the department." She raised her eyebrows. "Dramatic much?" He grinned. "We are also the most stunningly good-looking partners by far." She chuckled and he could sense she was weakening. "Our partnership is very important to me. Let me take you to dinner. You can even bring along your sticky little offspring." He was giving her the puppy dog eyes now, as was Trixie who had appeared at his elbow.
Chloe rolled her eyes. "Okay you two. It's a nice idea. Thank you Lucifer." Trixie cheered and punched the air before running off again. "What were you saying about the date?" He was beaming at her. "Would you prefer to mark the day we met or the day we officially became partners?" She thought for a moment. "Partners I think."
"Excellent. That will be next Friday then." She kissed his cheek. "Nothing too fancy, right?" His eyes were twinkling with mischief. "As if I would Detective."
