Turnabout Promises

Summary:

With the help of Franziska Von Karma, Phoenix Wright was able to successfully propose to his now fiance, Miles Edgeworth. By this time they had been engaged for 6 months when Phoenix was found by Edgeworth in the storage of the Borscht Bowl Club during one Trucy Wright’s magic show. Now Edgeworth- filled with Hate, Indignation, Heartbreak, and more feelings he can't name- finds himself working- alongside Franziska, Maya, and Pearl- to find and bring Phoenix’s murderer to justice.

Notes:

This story was inspired by “Turnabout Tragedy” EnbyInRed and “Don’t Go” by izzyworth(EnderRaccoon) as well as fanart I saw on Pinterest. I love their work and writing style!

Chapter Text

Across from Phoenix Wright sat Franziska Von Karma. His hopefully future sister in law. Next to him was Maya Fey, a person who had grown to become like his family.

“You fool! Even though my dear brother deserves only the best, he doesn’t need something so- flashy!” Franziska exclaimed, snapping her whip.

“Yeah, Nick. I know you don’t have the best fashion but this is just… sad.” Maya backed up Franziska- who was now smugly smiling at him.

Luckily, the house had been cleared of any daughters or boyfriends so nobody could hear what they were saying besides those three people.

“I know! That’s why this is just a thought… and also why I desperately needed your help for this.” Phoenix said, nervously and gingerly rubbing his hand on the back of his head.

“Of course my help was very much needed in this case. Only a fool would disagree with that fact. Only someone as close as I am to my brother can help.” Franziska said smugly before sobering and looking at Phoenix sternly, crossing her arms. “I hope you understand how important it is that you are serious about this, Phoenix Wright. Despite your foolishness, I expect you to do only the best for Miles Edgeworth."

“I know, Franziska. I understand.”

“Good! Now let us continue.”

In a few days, Phoenix Wright, The Turnabout Terror and father of Trucy Wright, was planning on proposing– with the help of Franziska and Maya– to Miles Edgeworth. His plan was to disguise Franziska’s help as her just visiting Miles. It wasn’t necessarily a lie, she was there to visit but it was mainly to help Phoenix with his plan. They had just finished planning for the day and had come up with a solid plan.

They had planned for a dinner date. Franziska paid for an extravagant but private dinner at a fancy restaurant Phoenix could not pronounce. Near the end of dinner, Phoenix would get on one knee and ask the question.

______________

Later that night, before Miles came home, Phoenix had Franziska watch over Trucy while he and Maya went to another place. When they had arrived, they stood in the dark room of the abandoned building.

“Nick, I’m so proud of you!” Maya said, bringing Phoenix into a tight hug. “You’ve come so far.”

“I really couldn’t have done it without you, Maya. You didn’t have to agree to do this.” Phoenix responded, his eyes filled with nervous excitement but covered in worry.

Maya could only shake her head.

“I agreed because I know I can handle it. And because I know you can handle it. I’m doing this for you Nick. For you and Miles.” She said, so the decision was final and they sat across from each other. Maya began the summoning.

Phoenix’s mind was still laced with worry and nervousment. What if this didn’t work? Or maybe Maya would strain herself? Or what if Gregory’s spirit was too far gone?

But before Phoenix could rethink his decision, the summoning had completed and before Phoenix’s eyes was Gregory Edgeworth. His Partner’s father. Phoenix sat stilled in shock. It worked.

Gregory looked around the area, as if wondering how and why he could see the human world as a person and not a spirit world. Then, his eyes found Phoenix’s and widened. “Phoenix, is that you?” He called out, snapping Phoenix back to the reality that his boyfriend’s dead dad was talking to him and was right in front of him.

“I- yes. Uh, hello Mr. Edgeworth.” He mustered, trying not to sound as nervous as he was and utterly failing to do so. Thankfully, Gregory didn’t notice, and if he did he didn’t call Phoenix out for it.

Gregory smiled at him. “Hello again. You’ve gotten older.”

Phoenix chuckled nervously. “Yeah, I guess I have.” ‘How do I even ask him what I want to ask?’ he thought to himself. Phoenix cleared his throat and tried to speak. “Mr. Edgeworth, I asked my friend Maya to summon you because I have a really important question to ask you.” He said, his heart pounding in his chest.

“Go on then.”

“Right.. Well I don’t know if you know- well I’m not sure how you would find out but- Miles and I are dating.” He said, darting his eyes to face anywhere but his face. “In fact we’ve been dating for more than 3 years.”

To his surprise, he heard a soft laugh.

“Finally.”

“I- I’m sorry? Finally? What?”

Gregory just continued to laugh. “Don’t act so confused, Phoenix.” He wiped a tear from his eye. “I knew there was something with you two a long time ago. I see you’ve finally figured it out yourselves.” Gregory said. “The good young days. Even after my death, I felt as if you guys would reconnect somehow.”

Phoenix looked at him, baffled. ‘We were nine? How did he know? That was decades ago!’

“I think I know what you are asking now but I want to hear you say it.” Gregory continued.

Big chance, Phoenix. Don’t mess it up.  “Mr. Edgeworth, I really really do love your son.” Pausing for effect, “He’s one of the most important factors of my life and I see myself being able to have a future with him. I wanted to get your blessing to marry him.” He finished.

“Son,” Gregory started, ‘S- Son?’ “For as long as I’ve known your relationship with my son, I’ve seen how relaxed and happy he is around you. That’s more than I could ever want for him. For you to be there with him forever is my honor. My answer for you is yes. You have my blessing.”

Gregory said, taking Phoenix's hands into.. His own.

“Keep him safe for me.” He said.

“T-Thank you sir!” Phoenix exclaimed, holding onto his grasps.

Gregory laughed. “You have shown to be family. Please, call me dad.”

“Thank you, dad!”

“I should go now, Tell Miles I’ll always be here.”

“Yes, of course. Thank you si- dad.”

Gregory closed his eyes and when Phoenix blinked, Maya laid unconscious on the floor.

Phoenix sighed and smiled brightly. “Thank you, Maya.”

______________

A week later, the opportunity came.

Picking out his nicest suit he owned- which Miles had gotten tailor made just for him- and keeping the box in the pocket, he exited the room to face Miles.

He smiled, taking in the view of the man in front of him.

The box in his pocket was a heavy weight on him and the longer it sat there untouched, the more Phoenix worried. ‘Is this a good idea?’ he kept asking himself.

He shrugged off these feelings and decided to just go with the flow of the night ahead of him

The restaurant he and Franziska had chosen was nice to say the least. It was definitely way more expensive than he could ever afford but it wasn’t overly fancy like he originally thought it would be. Sure it wasn’t small or quaint but it wasn’t massive and “flashy”. It was just right.

They chatted until their meals had arrived.

They’re night had started off like any other date night they had. Talks about the latest court cases they had, fun moments with Trucy, the shenanigans of Gumshoe, Larry, or Maya, and at this moment, reminiscing old memories.

The days they were just children or when they had reunited.

The softer times.

The box in Phoenix’s pocket might as well have been a 50lbs weight on him.

“Phoenix, are you okay?”

Phoenix focused his gaze on the man in front of him.

“Yeah sorry, ‘zoned out for a second. What were you saying?”

“I was asking you what was on your mind.”

They were nearing the end of their meal

‘This is now or never, Phoenix.’ he said in his mind.

He stuck his hand in his pocket, touching the soft fabric surrounding the box. He stood up out of his chair, dropping down to one knee.

“Miles Edgeworth.” He started. “For as long as I can remember, you have been an important factor in my life and I couldn’t ask anything more from you; but I also find myself wanting to be with you in a way that’s more than we are now.”

Opening the black box in his hands to reveal a beautiful $200 silver and red ruby ring.

“Would you let me have the honor of calling you my husband and marry me?”

A gasp and the sound of silverware clattering against a plate was heard and before Phoenix could react, arms were wrapped around his neck followed by multiple kisses across his face and a firm one on his lips.

“Oh my Lord, Phoenix! Yes! Yes absolutely!”

And they embraced each other in their arms. Holding each other like they were the last ones in the world.

And so Phoenix Wright was engaged to Miles Edgeworth and he couldn’t be happier.
