Wemmbu had seen it all. The downfall of Egg’s mental health had been worse than he expected. He needed to help his friend—his best friend. So, he did. He was going to help, whether he sucked at comfort or not, he was at least going to be there for Egg. He took his coms out, immediately texting his friend.
joim call rq
He’d hope that Egg would join quickly, the more it drew out, the worse the anxiety would get. He wouldn’t be able to get to the End very quickly, but on the way there, he’d hope to give him some comfort before he does. Wemmbu needed to make sure Egg was okay, was safe, protected.
The coms pinging sound finally came to a stop, Eggchan had joined the call. Wemmbu’s heart broke at the sound of silent cries attempting to be covered up. He could hear Egg shuffling to wipe his eyes, to pretend it didn’t matter.
“Egg,” Wemmbu said softly, a warm smile on his expression even if the other couldn’t see it. He could hear someone else talking in the background, voice too far to hear who it was, “Egg, is Minute there?”
“Mhm,” the sound came through, weak and exhausted, the owner not trusting his voice.
“I’m here with him, Wemmbu,” Minute’s voice came in louder now, closer to the coms. “Egg hasn’t spoken a word to me since I got here… roughly twenty minutes ago. But I’ve been keeping him company until you eventually called.”
“Thank you, Minute,” Wemmbu said. “I’m heading to the End portal right now, I’ll be there in ten.”
“Do you want to hang up until you get here?”
“Yes, I can’t travel fast enough if I’m holding the coms. Just make sure he doesn’t pull at his wings or hair, keep him stable,” Wemmbu explained, huffing as he hopped over trees. “I’ll be there soon, Egg. I promise. It’s taking a bit since I don’t have rockets, but I promise I’ll be there soon.”
“Mm,” Egg’s hum sounded again.
Wemmbu gripped his fist, shutting the coms off immediately to focus on his traversing.
Whoever had done this to him, they were going to pay for it. He’s dealt with these fuckers before, he’ll do it again, tenfold, for his friend.
Minute watched the coms’ light dim, signaling the end of the call. Egg stared at it as it died, hands twitching and wings trying to hide his face. He felt small, seen too much.
“Egg…” Minute started, reaching out, but taken aback when Egg looked away, sitting up from the chair to go to his bed. Minute stayed there, not wanting to make things worse. Just watch him until Wemmbu gets here. Easy… Simply task.
But when Egg’s hands trembled to his head, pulling at his wings, Minute had to force his way to Egg. Pushing his arms down away from his wings, Wemmbu said not to let him do that, so Minute won’t let it happen.
Egg seemed to know that it would happen, giving in so easily and leaving his hands down with Minute’s force. He tried to push his wings more over his face, hating how Minute kept looking at him. Trying to cover up so badly.
Minute sat down beside him on the bed, not looking at him but still watching him carefully.
He doesn’t interact with Egg and Wemmbu very much, but … he’d do anything for them.
Egg’s wings twitched at the sound of a rocket going off, multiple times, haphazardly through the entire dimension. From Egg’s room entrance came a stumbling Wemmbu, not bothering to take his elytra off as he ran to Egg’s side.
Minute quickly moved out of the line of the demon, letting him jump at his best friend.
“Eggchan,” Wemmbu's trembling voice sounded, he detached himself from the angel, looking frantically at his wings and hands, making sure nothing looked or seemed hurt. When he accessed everything, Wemmbu stared at him.
The angel’s wings tried to close up again, trying to move his head away from the cup of Wemmbu’s hands. But the demon wouldn’t let go.
Not this time.
He would never let go of him.
“Egg,” his voice called out again, as if the other wasn’t listening, didn’t want to listen.
“I don’t want to hear it,” Egg’s weak voice came through, finally speaking after ages of silence. “I know exactly what you’re going to say. ‘Don’t let them get to you!’ How can I not…?”
“Because I’m here, Minute is here, everyone is here for you, Egg. Truly, don’t let them get to you. They may ruin a lot of things, but it doesn’t change the fact that you are still our friend. They’re just some… jealous, mean, hackers that want to ruin everything. Don’t let them.”
Minute nodded along, “Words may not change anything that’s already happened, but know we're all on your side here. Me, Wemmbu, Flame, Parrot, Theo, everyone is. We’re here for you.”
Egg’s wings lowered themselves slowly, looking up at Wemmbu as if he was the last thing he could hold onto, “Wemmbu…”
The demon got up to sit down on the bed where Minute was, holding Egg’s hand tightly with both of his, “We mean this, Egg. Everyone is probably worried sick about you already.”
Minute looked over at Egg’s coms on the desk, watching it flicker with light with each new message or DM. He could see the faint word of a name to the side, close to Flame’s name. Even he was concerned about it all.
“I just… I don’t want others to get wrapped up in this mess, they want me,” Egg said, attempting to hide away again.
Wemmbu brought him back, “We won’t let them do anything to either of us, we are here to help each other and make sure this can be solved. Preferably with violence, but we can do peaceful, too.”
Eggchan unconsciously cracked a smile, a small huff of laughter escaping. Wemmbu felt proud, he was able to help his friend, even if just a little bit at a time.
“I’d rather them go through me entirely,” the angel said. “I don’t want them going near you.”
Wemmbu scoffed, “Like they can do anything to me, buddy.”
“I’d rather them not try anything at all,” Egg surmised, returning the grip to Wemmbu’s hand.
“The same goes to you, too,” the demon argued, “I’d rather this not have happened at all, but we can’t change what people do. It was bound to happen, but it’s still okay.”
“No, it’s not okay…”
“Us, or the situation?” Wemmbu asked.
Egg didn’t answer it.
Wemmbu continued. “I understand you’re upset and you’re scared, and terrified of what this can intel for us in the future, but there’s no reason to fight this alone, Egg.”
“I didn’t want to wrap you all into this, especially you, Bu,” Egg said, looking up desperate at his friend.
Wemmbu leaned against him, “And we’re not letting you do this alone, as I said. I don’t care if I get roped into this, I’m not leaving you alone to fend for us yourself.”
“I guess I can’t stop you, huh?”
“Nope!” The demon smiled proudly. “You’re stuck with me, buddy!”
Minute shifted, “I’ll go heat up some leftovers.”
“Oh, thank you, Minute,” Wemmbu said.
The voidling left the room, the quietness grew louder. The internal dialogue of Eggchan was loud too, the constant movement of his eye looking at everything imaginable in his room meant he was thinking of something.
Wemmbu let him, he can’t stop him from simply thinking, even if it may be harmful.
Then, finally, Egg spoke, “I thank you for helping comfort me, Wemmbu, but I’d still rather deal with this on my own. I don’t want you in this.”
The demon looked somewhat hurt, but he still smiled soft and warm at him, “Okay, bud.”
Egg returned the smile, leaning over to join Wemmbu’s hug, wrapping their arms around each other at an awkward angle.
“Thanks for understanding,” Egg said, transforming into his more human-like form, now comfortable in his own skin, even if just for a little while.
He was gorgeous, if being an angel didn’t already tell people that. Eyes blue like the ocean, hair flowy and perfectly fluffy. Wemmbu loved getting to brush it when Egg allowed him to.
Wemmbu didn’t say anything about it, not wanting to make things worse and force Egg out of it. He wants him to be safe and loved here.
“I get you, Egg. Not wanting me to be a part of it, I won’t ask for your reasons, but I will support you in whatever you decide to do,” Wemmbu moved, replacing the awkward side hug for a real one. “If you want me to kill ‘em. I will.”
“No, please do not kill them,” Egg laughed.
“I wouldn’t be opposed to that solution, though.”
“Of course you wouldn’t,” Egg rolled his eyes, a genuine smile on his face.
Minute soon returned to the room, two plates of furnaced meat and seasoning. Wemmbu took them, giving one to Egg, Minute left once more to go clean up the kitchen, leaving the two alone.
“Wemmbu,” Egg mumbled, staring down at the food in front of him. “Will this end?”
“All things come to an end eventually. I know this won’t last long, and when it’s all over, we can go fishing together for a while,” Wemmbu said.
The angel huffed heartedly, “I’d like that.”
“Eat, Egg, I’m sure everyone else is worried sick and would like an explanation for our silence.”
Though, after they ate, the coms were ignored.
The two peacefully slept the day away, or whatever daylight cycle it was in the End.
Didn’t matter, because they were together.
Till the ends of the farlands.
