Summary
Jensen's relationship with Cougar has always been seen as a little odd. They're closer than most best friends would claim to be — the term "co-dependent" has been used more than once — but, despite what most people seem to think, there are still lines even they haven't crossed. And, in hindsight, it becomes clear that, just maybe, the main reason for that is a subconscious, deeply rooted sense of self-preservation.
Because when they finally do cross one of those lines, things begin to unravel fast. Sleeping in the same bed as Cougar — in a completely platonic and wholly innocent capacity — might not seem all that dangerous, but it doesn't take long before Jensen realizes his mistake.
Because, suddenly, he knows what it's like to fall asleep to the sounds of Cougar's heartbeats and wake to the brush of Cougar's bare skin against his own. And how safe he feels, wrapped up in Cougar's arms. How right it feels.
And that, right there, has the potential to ruin everything.
Because, unsurprisingly, Jensen wants more — but he has no idea if Cougar feels the same.
