Summary
14 year old Katara Winters and her younger sister Rowan were orphans ever since their parents died two years earlier. From then forwards, they were bounced around from foster family to foster family. No one wanted to keep them. The kinder ones would say that they didn't feel responsible enough to take care of two children, while the crueller would say to their faces that they were too much to manage.
The idea of trusting anyone was a foreign concept to Katara, torn away by the constant reminders that hope got you hurt. When they fall under the care of Lin-Manuel Miranda and his family, she has to remind herself that he is no different. At some point or another, he will get bored of his "charity project".
But with every act of kindness, it starts to not seem like the case.
