   Summary

   Dr. Gero has always been a man of science, of curiosity. To better humanity, he must do things--horrid things (no matter how much he pretends not to enjoy them) in order to bring them out of the muck. Humans shall receive no handouts, nor protection--no matter how much the tales of old tell of martial artists, warriors of body and mind, risking life and limb to send the woes of man to their graves.

   Ceaseless nights of unending work, no matter how successful, refuse to deliver the results Gero had been searching for. Until a child crosses a sea of stars, and drops the missing variable right into his lap.

   Harboring a child of legend, Dr. Gero carries all the cards. But is he too blind to see the ace in his hand harbors a few bends?
