Summary
As a child, the silence in his house was always oppressive. Proof that his mother was gone, that his father had nothing to say to him unless it was critical. But the silence with the Hollanders is… cozy. There’s no tension, just three people enjoying watching the sun set over the lake, silence broken only by the howl of the loons and the crackle of the fire.
