For the lovely Megurine Luka

Summary:

Haku goes all out trying to make everything perfect for her Valentine's Day night with Luka, but her sleep deprivation starts catching up to her, and it becomes harder and harder for her to stay awake and give her girlfriend the best Valentine's Day ever...

But she has done more than enough to make her the happiest girlfriend in the world that day.

Notes:

I was as tired as Haku is whilst writing this so apologies if it isn't up to my usual quality, but I hope you enjoy this hakuluka nation

Work Text:

Yowane Haku isn't much of a romantic person. Sure, she did love kisses and cuddles from her wonderful girlfriend, Megurine Luka, but she was always on the recieving end of that love and attention, and never the one giving it.

So, with it being her day off, she decided today would be the day that she finally shows Luka all of the love she has towards her, and what better day than Valentine's Day!

Her girlfriend had advised her that she should probably spend this day off having an nice long nap, seeing as she keeps on falling asleep whilst she should be working, but now wasn't the time to be sleeping. She needed to get to work immediately.

So, when Luka left for the supermarket she works at, Haku got up from the couch and took a big stretch before getting to work on the very first step of her plan, which was to clean the place up. Sure, her girlfriend absolutely loves doing the cleaning, but Haku feels guilty that she always the one that has to clean up for all of her messes, so for once she should do that job.

Firstly, Haku watched a tutorial on how to actually use cleaning products, as she never actually learnt how to do that, but once she got that hammered down into her brain, she put some pink gloves on and started work on make the house as clean as possible.

Whilst she was spraying the windows, she noticed that a lot of the cleaning products were pink, in fact pretty much all of them. The gloves, the spray cleaner, the rag, the sponge, the mop, and even the vacuum cleaner was pink. When Haku is clean, she is pretty observant of things, yet she had never noticed this until now.

But I guess it checks out, seeing as everything that Luka regularly uses is her favourite colour pink, and there isn't actually a lot of things in the house that are Haku's favourite colour, purple…

She should probably buy her own things more, and actually do more jobs around the house…

Once everything looked sparkly and clean, which had already taken up a good chunk of Haku's 'spoons', as her girlfriend likes to call it for some odd reason, it was now time to decorate the house for the festive holiday of Valentine's Day. Luka had already bought a bunch of red and pink coloured bunting and roses, which she would put up later once she had come home from work, but Haku could just go ahead and do it for her instead!

It was quite the struggle to get the packaging open and then untangle the bunting, but once that was done, it was now time to get it hanging on the walls. Haku had always thought of herself as being quite tall, or at least taller than most of her friends, but she came to the realisation that she wasn't in fact tall enough to reach the top of the walls where the bunting always hangs along.

But it's fine, because she can just get a ladder!

Except, she doesn't know where the ladder is kept…

And she'll probably fall off it, hurt herself, and then Luka will cancel Valentine's Day, and the whole plan will be ruined…

Maybe she might just leave Luka to do the bunting…

Even though the roses that her girlfriend had bought were artificial, Haku could still feel herself get a little sneasy as she arranged them in the glass vases, which were also pink. She doesn't quite understand why, but anything is possible when it comes to Haku.

After that, she went to the bedroom and layed out Luka's favourite silky pink pyjamas for her to wear when she gets home. When she was laying them out of the bed, she found a yawn escape her, and she realised how tempting the bed looked… but she must resist.

She must keep on going for her lovely Luka!

Now, seeing as her girlfriend would probably be doing the cooking tonight, and that if she tried to do the cooking herself, she would probably set the house on fire, she decided it would be best if she had a go and baking instead. It sounds a lot safer than cooking, and after all, both of them do have more of a sweet tooth than anything.

When the two go on café dates together, they usually both get cookies, so Haku decided that she would have a go and baking cookies for herself and her beloved girlfriend. They probably get made super easily at those cafés that they go together, so it must be really easy to make at home by an unprofessional too…

Haku got up a recipe on her phone, and then began to scavenge hunt across the kitchen for all of the things she needed to make these sweet treats. Luckily enough, she was able to find all of the equipment and ingredients she needed, so she was good to go!

She did have to make herself a coffee to get herself through needing the dough and such other things that felt super uncomfortable to do, and also to keep herself awake the entire time, but she managed to get through it all and put the cookies in the oven. She did think about sitting on the couch whilst she waited for the cookies to be finished off, but she didn't want her death to have been her house setting on fire just because she fell asleep whilst making cookies for her love, so she sat herself down on the dining table instead and set an alarm.

Haku did start to doze off a little during the wait, but the alarm was able to stop her from fully drifting off, and she then got up and took the cookies out of the oven. They looked absolutely delicious, and smelled so sweet, and she felt so proud of herself…

But also, very tired too…

She had probably used up all of her 'spoons' at that point, but she knew she still needed to pick out a movie for them to watch later when they are all snuggled up on the couch together, so she slumped along to the couch and sat down before picking out a movie.

The only problem though is that those two have very different movie preferences. Luka absolutely adores romantic comedies, and Haku just likes silly cartoons. There is probably some silly cartoon romantic comedy somewhere, but Haku cell asleep before she could actually find it…

"Haku?"

Haku then slowly opened her eyes to find Luka taking up most of her vision as she was so close to her face. When did she get back? How hadn't she noticed when she got home?

"H-huh…?" She murmured before fully realising what had happened, "Wait, did I fall asleep?!"

"Well, I found you in a peaceful slumber when I arrived home, so yes, you did," Her girlfriend answered.

In a panic, Haku quickly sat up straight, both because she needed to know what had happened since she had dozed off, and also because their lips were just inncjes away from touching. Her head felt dizzy as she looked around, but she noticed that the bunting had now been hung up, strawberry fragrance candles had been lit around the room, a roast dinner had been cooked and was now waiting on the dining table, and…

It looked so dark outside…

"No!!!" Haku cried, burning her face in her hands, "I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to waste the whole day sleeping!"

"Don't worry, Haku, it's okay," Luka said softly as she placed a gentle kiss upon her forehead, we still have a few hours before Valentine's Day is over, so we still have time to eat dinner and be all cute and fluffy on the couch together!"

"Really?" Haku questioned as she removed her hands from her face and looked into the loving eyes of her girlfriend.

"Really," Luka smiled nodded, "Now let's go and eat before the food gets cold."

"Yeah, let's…" She nodded in return.

Her girlfriend helped her up from the couch and they both held hands as they walked to the dinner table together. The roast dinner looked absolutely delicious, but… it looked like a lot…

"Don't worry, you don't have to eat all of it," Luka reassured her girlfriend when she noticed the concerned look on her face.

"But you put so much effort into all of this, and I feel so guilty…" Haku muttered.

"I did it because I love you, and I can tell you love me back with everything you did for me as well," Luka smiled, "I've noticed that you cleaned up the house, layed out my favourite pair of pyjamas, which I'll put on after this, arranged the roses and baked cookies too!"

"It wasn't a lot…" Haku sighed.

"It may not be a lot to you, but it was plenty enough for me," She replied.

"Okay…" Her girlfriend nodded.

Haku tried to eat as much as she could, but it was only a couple of bites before her stomach began to hurt. She the just had to look away whilst Luka finished eating her food, because if she did look at the food any longer, she felt like she was going to be sick.

"I guess we won't get to eat my cookies then…" Haku mumbled sadly.

"Probably not tonight, but we can always have some tomorrow," Luka replied before getting up to wrap the cookies up so they don't go stale overnight, "Now then, would you like to head to bed now, or would you like to stay up and watch a movie?"

Haku's body desperately wanted to just collapse on the bed, and her brain just wanted to shut off already… but her heart wanted to keep on going. She needed to finish this Valentine's Day off right, so that she would finally feel satisfied and that she had actually done a good job today.

"Could we… watch a movie?" She asked a little sleepily.

"Of course we can," Her girlfriend nodded.

The two then went over to the couch and sat down together. Haku got cuddled up next to her as Luka picked out a movie for both of them to watch, knowing perfectly well that she could put on anything seeing as her girlfriend was going to fall asleep very soon.

"I love you, Luka…" Haku murmured as she began to kiss on her spare hand, "I love you so much…"

"I love you too, Haku," Luka smiled, "Thank you for such a great Valentine's Day…"

"Thank you, too…" She murmured as she then began to nuzzle her head into her neck.

Haku then shuffled closer and lifted her head up to kiss her girlfriend on the cheek repeatedly until she lost consciousness as fell onto her lap. Luka looked down at her with her eyes beaming, a warm smile on her face, and her cheeks now rosy red. Haku was so cute whenever she was like this, and it really topped off their lovely Valentine's Day together.

Luka bended down her head to give her one last forehead kiss before cuddling into her sleeping girlfriend whilst watching the movie she had picked out until she eventually fell asleep along with her, the TV baring as the two girlfriends slept peacefully, wrapped in each other's embrace in a blissful slumber…

Notes:

I kept on thinking about ways I could make things extremely difficult for Haku to make the day successful, but even though this was probably very unrealistic for a girl failure like herself, I felt really bad for her, so I couldn't bare having to write about her falling off a ladder or baking cookies without flour or butter, or any of the other things I had in mind...

I had the idea to write this Hakuluka fic back last year when I was on a Vocaloid oneshot writing streak, but am only writing this now because the idea came back to me when I looked through the Luka/Haku tag and found there were more focus since I last checked it, and also to give me the motivation to finish this other oneshot I've been working on the last couple of days
