He knew it was bad because he couldn’t breathe; the air had been knocked from his but that wasn’t it; now he had found his breath after a terrifying moment when he felt like he would never breathe again. A sound had ripped out from him and forced a breath to be pulled in after, had he screamed? Ilya only knew pain in that moment, white searing pain radiated from his knee and from below it, he had tears already down his cheeks, the pain so horrible he felt it too painful to breathe, the lights above him swirled again. He saw the medics, registered there were people crowding around him, saw the hands reach for him, and at the first touch, the first rearrangement of his position, Ilya screamed again, and found his vision filled with blackness.
