Shikamaru opens the door in a pair of low-slung sweatpants and a loose, faded t-shirt and Ino thinks that her life is turning into one big joke. And a rather distasteful one at that, if she’s allowed any input. Shikamaru’s standing there, one arm braced on the doorjamb above his head, leaning against the frame of the house so that she can see a slash of toned, tanned stomach from where his shirt’s riding up, and Ino thinks she might strangle something. Maybe whatever god’s decided to turn her life into their personal sitcom. Maybe Shikamaru.
_____________'Casual' and 'uncomplicated' sounded good to Ino when Shikamaru suggested it. And, if she's honest, her feelings are still relatively uncomplicated - just in a different way then Shikamaru meant, and decidedly opposite of 'casual'.

"Did you bring me flowers, Merlin?"
"Uh, no?”
Arthur gestured to a spot on the table behind him. “What’s that, then?”
Merlin slowly twisted around to see what he was pointing at, dread curling in his gut. Primly placed on the tabletop was a bouquet of red roses.
“Er, someone else must have left them there. I have no idea where they came from,” Merlin lied awkwardly.
As if on cue, a rose fell out of his jacket pocket and Merlin's stomach dropped a thousand feet beneath the ground.

His feet were moving before he realised what he was doing. He walked out from behind Arthur’s throne and around the table to stand in front of the whole Court. His hands were shaking when he looked at his King. Arthur looked shocked, and while this gave him a bit of satisfaction, it didn’t help to lessen his nervousness at all.
“I’m Emrys,” he said loudly, trying to get himself under control.
“Stop trying to be funny, Merlin,” Arthur snorted. “Go back to your place,” he added.
“The Druids call me Emrys. It’s me you’re looking for,” he repeated stubbornly, but he knew that Arthur would need something more convincing than his words to believe him.
He stretched out his hand, wondering what to create to prove the truth of his words, but a ball of fire was enough for an expression of pure horror to appear on Arthur’s face.
