Notes:

As to timelines: I took some liberties. In this universe the events of Thor happen about a year after the events of Iron Man 2, and Loki lands on Earth about a week after Thor left because he let go sooner and as a consequence didn't encounter Thanos or the Chitauri.

 

The title is a mash-up of the beginning of Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times (...)" and the following quote by Lisa Kleypas: "Sometimes life has a cruel sense of humor, giving you the thing you always wanted at the worst time possible."
