To Ghost’s chagrin, there was nothing in the field manual about wanting to know someone— nothing about wanting to live outside of the military, and nothing at all about being human with anyone else at all.

He hears a multitude of yelling, his ears picking out Amy's shrill voice and Rouge's low one. He's a bit too far away to hear exactly what's going on, and the clanging of his fists against the eggbots isn't helping. He's a bit concerned that the racket hasn't ended, though. He's almost finished clearing out the last of the robots, intending to check on the issue after, but then he hears it,
"Shadow! PLEASE- SHADOW-!!"
Just like that, his attention shifts. He whirls around, eyes sharp and ears scanning. That was Tails' voice, coated in fear and desperation as he calls for Shadow.

X had told him so, as had Grian, and especially Hypno, who knew the way the villagers treated outsiders or those who had wronged them, but that never stopped him from dashing through the forest in order to get to Joel’s store. He’d convinced himself that the risk was minimal, and the reward great- he really hated having to hike his way through the pass, which was his only other option to get there- however it seemed he’d made a minor mistake in his calculations, and now here he was, being dragged into the town square by three knights whose names Wels had completely forgotten. Internally, he groaned. Today was a terrible day to not wear armour- not that it would’ve changed anything. He was completely outnumbered, and unlike mercenaries, knights usually worked as a team, so there was no chance he could’ve fought them and won. They wrestled him out of his shirt before hauling him to the center of the square.
There was already a crowd beginning to gather around him, and someone behind Wels cleared their throat to address them.
