But Welsh called me into his office one morning, and I knew when he flipped the blinds closed that it was something serious. He had a file on the desk in front of him, and he was drumming his fingers on it as though he was trying to work out where to start. Finally he said, “I had a call from Inspector Major last night.” That gave me a hell of a jolt: Inspector Joan Major was Fraser's new boss up at Depot. He'd taken a temporary position there running some training courses for the RCMP.

Ray tried to decide exactly how he felt about spending the evening looking at porn for work with Fraser. On one hand, he liked porn as much as the next guy, so it would probably be more interesting than inventorying, say, Canadian tourism brochures. On the other hand, he wasn't going to be looking at the porn for fun, and there was a pretty hard upper limit to how fun paperwork could be. Plus he was still chafing about his Friday night being taken away. On a third hand, he would be looking at porn with Fraser which…he had some other feelings about that he did not know how he would categorize.

Summary
When Human Paladin Fraser and Half-Elven Thief Ray are paired up for a basic retrieval mission, both hope it's as simple as it's presented to be. Given their professions, the two have no reason to get along, so as far as they're concerned the shorter the trip, the better.
But then the job becomes more of a Quest, and to complicate matters further, Fraser and Ray realize neither man is what they'd first assumed. Changing feelings, secrets and hidden dangers make this an adventure where whether or not they succeed, nothing will ever be the same.
Warnings for gratuitous creation of language, mild fantasy (it’s a Dungeons and Dragons AU, folks, get your mind out of the gutter) violence, and complete lack of an NC-17 rating.
