The dragonrider – a Hale, Stiles realized breathlessly – reached up and drew back the leather riding hood that had half-obscured his face, pulling off the flight-lenses in the same graceful motion. He had dark hair, thick brows, and wore a solid, serious expression.
“Oh,” Allison sighed. “He’s gorgeous.”
Stiles nodded a fervent agreement before realizing that Allison was gazing up at the dragon.
His own eyes were trained to the face of the rider.

Summary
When Weyrwoman Maenida comes to grief during Threadfall, the repercussions are disastrous. The Fighting Wings suffer crippling losses, and the Lower Caverns are left in turmoil. Weyrleader Sh'vek's options are limited...but that only makes it all the more essential for him to keep a tight hold on the reins of power.
Rahnis of Ista, brought in to assist junior weyrwoman Delene, soon discovers that her new responsibilities will be even harder to manage than she imagined. Torn from her weyrmate, she struggles to find a workable solution that will make everything right...though it will, inevitably, exact a price.
But for some people, it's not all bad news. He may have been given leadership of the worst Wing ever to grace the skies of Pern, but for bronzerider F'ren the situation offers only opportunity. Turning his Wing around well enough to make a difference for the better is only the beginning: F'ren has no intention of resting on his laurels, no matter how hard his Weyrleader tries to stymie him.
Thread, however, cares little for human politics. All Thread does is kill.

Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian had enjoyed their days as candidates, excused from cultivation classes, and he'd almost started to feel comfortable with the idea of the Hatching approaching so soon.
But it's different, now, standing on the heated sands, with every eye in Lianhua Weyr on them--on him, as the Weyrleaders' son. With every wing of able-bodied dragons draped around the Bowl overhead, their humming reverberating through his bones. With every one of his mother's hopes for him, his father's expectations of him, riding on this moment.
If he doesn't Impress at all this Hatching, and Wei Wuxian does, he'll never hear the end. If he Impresses but doesn't Impress a bronze... Oh, shells. Oh, shells and shards, he'll have to transfer Weyrs, that's all there is to it. He'll have to go fade into obscurity in one of those tiny Weyrs in Southern and never be heard from again.
