The receiver rings for a while, maybe longer to his sleep deprived brain, but he gets a voicemail like he expected.

The recording takes Jason back. Way back. Something about it makes his throat go tight. He almost backs out, but clears his throat after the beep.Or

One of them runs around acting like there’s a crisis of one sort or other while big muscle, threat-y man guards the prisoner who is not chained down or restrained in any way and has what can be assumed is full cognition. Although if he didn’t have full cognition, would he know? Okay, maybe, just maybe he hadn’t seen this metaphorical movie before but acknowledging that would mean admitting that he had no idea what was going on. Wally did not want to do that.

He woke up too early, some time around ten, after too little sleep, to go teach his gymnastics class. Tuesdays and Thursdays it was beginners at two, then intermediates at four. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday it was his advanced classes at two and three and his older beginners at four. On Sundays he had his adult class at five. Then, he would go home, take a quick dinner, maybe catch up with some friends, before returning home to change before going out at nine. He usually crawled home at three in the morning which meant that he got into bed around four or five, usually stiffer than he would have liked."

It'd been decades since fighting was this much of a challenge for him. Some parts still came naturally, like the graceful footwork carrying him across the padded training mat, keeping him grounded as he threw punches and blocked powerful hits. Other things required a little more effort. Moves that he once flowed through with the grace or a mighty river now felt choppy and cumbersome. Everyone kept telling him healing took time, he needed to be patient.
But that also stopped coming naturally.Dick's recovery after a amnesiac year as Ric Grayson is taking longer than expected. And has some difficult side effects.
