One last waiting hand that comes up wanting - but maybe the fact she had a bag packed already meant she didn't really want it. Maybe she had wanted for this to happen, with cold shoulders and pointed looks always prepared. John certainly didn't do anything to mend their relationship; and maybe Sam feared the normalcy of an irreparably ruined relationship turned on its head.

Summary
Based on The Sacred Band of Thebes: The year is 338BC and Dean’s erastes Benny is leaving the Sacred Band of Thebes, the elite Greek company made of homosexual lovers. A new batch of hoplites join the band as the older men leave, and Dean has to pick his new eromenos. He chooses the man who barely fills his armour to be his partner on and off the battlefield.
