There are pros and cons to being shipped off to Nevermore. The Pros— she'll finally be going to school with people who aren't put off by a bit of carnage which means she might actually enjoy being there. Hell, she might even make a few friends or go on a date just to see what the fuss is about. The Cons— being sent to Nevermore out of all the outcast schools in America means she's trapped under the weight of her parents' own time there. It's a blatant attempt to get her to follow in her mother's footsteps, one Wednesday refuses to fall prey to.
Of course, that doesn't mean she can't find a way to thread the needle and get the best of both worlds. Wednesday is criminally clever, if anyone can find a way to vivisect the Teen Experience™ and spite their mother's expectations at the same time it's her. The serial murder investigation is really just icing on the poisoned cake.

They also knew that Wednesday would rather gouge her eyes out than celebrate the bright holiday. At first, people were surprised Enid even bothered getting Wednesday anything for Valentines, knowing with upmost certainty that the little psychopath would burn it before it even saw her dorm. But Enid, sweet Enid, was determined to make Wednesday’s Valetines less miserable (in her eyes).
