“C’mon, let me introduce you.” She places a gentle hand on Wayne’s elbow, guiding him the last couple of steps to the bassinet. The first time Wayne sets eyes on his nephew, Eddie’s eye are wide open, almost like he’s scanning the room. There’s a patch of dark hair already sitting on Eddie’s head and he’s wrapped in a white blanket with blue trim.
“Wayne, this here is Eddie. Eddie, this is your Uncle Wayne.” Eddie’s eyes move to Elizabeth when she speaks and Wayne already knows this is the smartest kid he’s ever met.
“He’s a tiny thing.” Wayne reaches a hand out to Eddie and when his finger nudges against Eddie’s tiny palm he’s rewarded with the softest grip. More a reflex than anything. Elizabeth watches the two of them, smiling to herself before reaching down to rub her fingers across Eddie’s hair softly.
