“Two whole days, huh?” Eddie asks with fond amusement as he folds the last of Christopher’s clean shirts, stacking it neatly in the laundry basket.
“Eddie,” Buck groans, his voice a little gruff with just the quietest tinge of nauseous that tells him that Buck probably hasn’t had anything to eat yet, “how am I supposed to distract myself for two days if I can’t talk to anyone or scour the internet from the comfort of my own bed.”
“You do know you have a laptop, right?” Eddie hums, the phone carefully tucked against his shoulder and his ear as he maneuvers to Christopher’s room to put the clothes away.
“Fine,” Buck relents, “I have a laptop, but you know that doesn’t solve the can’t talk to anyone problem.”

"The F18 soared across the open water, a few thousand feet above the hard deck. Buck pushed the plane past Mach 1 and was rounding on Mach 1.5, enjoying the roar of the engine and the steady vibration of the plane under him. He loved the feeling of flying; the strange part of him felt grounded the higher he went, more connected to himself the more altitude he gained.
The F18 responded beautifully to his every touch, going faster or slower with barely more effort than a thought.
Buck had brought an old polaroid with him in the plane, the one his dad had given him when he went off to basic flight training. He’d taken a few pictures during his time in the Navy, mostly of Bradley or the sky. He loved being able to send polaroids home to his dads."

He blinks a few times, brow furrowed, “Well, yeah I know that.”
“No, Buck,” Maddie leans forward covering his hand with her own, “I mean it. No one else is allowed to know about this.”
Buck opens his mouth, but Maddie reads him like the traitorous sister that she is and cuts him off by saying, “That includes Eddie.”
“Maddie,” Buck whines, and he’s very well aware at how pathetic it sounds, “that’s not fair! It’s — he’s — it’s Eddie!”

Summary
Sometimes, Buck forgot that Eddie was from Texas. He’d been in LA for so long that he didn’t really have an accent anymore, except for when he was really sleepy or had a little too much to drink. His vowels would drop, syllables would get a little bit too long and suddenly everyone was “honey” or “baby” or god forbid “darlin’” and Hen would have to scrape Buck off the floor. Literally.
Or, Buck is occasionally reminded of Eddie’s roots in Texas and behaves appropriately.

Summary
Eddie reaches a hand, slowly, towards the cat, palm up and open like he was taught to greet dogs, and the beast hisses at him.
“Oh, relax,” he says, rolling his eyes, and inches his hand closer. “I’m bigger than you.”
The cat’s eyes are narrowed into slits, zeroed in on his hand, but she doesn’t hiss again. Eddie’s not sure how she does it, but he gets the distinct impression that she’s doing him a huge favour when she finally lets him get close enough to run gentle fingers over the top of her head.
Her fur is dry and chalky, like she’s got a layer of grime settled on top of her. Eddie’s familiar with the feeling.

Eddie nodded for him to go on, Buck already reaching to tap the correct buttons.
“How about two taps means: ‘I’m safe’.”
Buck tapped his bracelet twice, the two of them watching in awe as Eddie’s lit up, vibrating where it lay over his wrist. He watched as Eddie visibly shivered; he couldn’t be sure if it was due to the magic of the bracelets, or Eddie’s fear of technology—maybe a little of both.
Buck cleared his throat, ducking his head a little as he continued.
“And maybe, we could use—4 taps to say: ‘I’m hurt, but ok’.”
Eddie looked up to him then, raising a brow.“How many taps do we need for, ‘my best friend is a dumbass and did something stupid again, and I’m not there to have his back’?”
Buck deadpanned.
“Well, that would be nineteen, to be exact.”

Buck buys him and Eddie touch bracelets, not wanting either of them to feel disconnected after Eddie leaves. They help, but the real thing is still better.
