It makes sense, in a strange way. Their conditions are deeply entwined, though he can’t explain why. His out-of-body existence is tied to Gene’s life stream for some reason – he’s the only one he haunts. The only one he sees. The only one he’s allowed to visit, apparently.
The only one he can talk to. Even though an actual conversation is impossible.
"Maybe I should get him to buy a Ouija board. Write stuff in chicken’s blood on his walls. Slam cupboard doors at 3am."
He finds the concept of acting like an actual ghoul hilarious. He thinks he’d give Gene a heart attack, which would be entertaining enough to watch. But he can’t even afford this small bit of fun. He doesn’t touch things. Ever.
