“I’ll read all the letters you send me,” Shiho says, desperately hoping her tone doesn’t betray a thing, or at least none of the emotions swirling through her stomach. “It’s just—I don’t know if I can write back. I’m no good at writing like Ichika is. But I—” A hesitant beat. “I’ll promise I’ll read your letters. I’ll even re-read them, too, when I miss you.”
She imagines tracing Saki’s handwriting with her fingertip, imagines comparing each sloppy stroke and swoop to her usual calligraphy.
I wouldn’t mind, Shiho thinks. I wouldn’t mind the difference at all.
OR: 5 times Shiho found herself drifting apart from Saki, and 1 time she couldn’t let go.
