    At the steps of the casino a little boy dressed in brightly patched overalls shoves a crumpled paper into Wolfwood’s hand, then bounces on his toes until Wolfwood smoothes it out. It’s a flyer, hand painted with a large cage holding a question mark. It beckons Wolfwood come see the caged wonder in the big top all week! He looks at the boy who is grinning at him. He’s missing his two front teeth, shaggy hair, ribs protruding and skinny arms.

    “I ain’t given’ you money for a piece of paper, kid,” Wolfwood says. He does reach into an inner pocket of his coat and extracts two pieces of candy. “Here.”

    Two and a half years after an alternate universe July is destroyed, Wolfwood escorts Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson through the desert to caravan port. They're doing investigative reporting on human trafficking in caravan's after Meryl's success in publishing a piece on Vash the Stampede post July. Wolfwood is trying to live and forgive himself for his betrayal that ultimately killed Vash.
