Summary
The first thing Erestor remembered were the stars. There were hundreds, thousands, millions of them standing above him in the sky, and they were the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. Those first days, weeks, months, perhaps even years that he spent with the others by that lake where they had awakened later felt more like a dream than something that had truly happened. They called themselves the Quendi, those who spoke with voices, but among themselves they also called each other the Children of the Stars, for the stars were the first and the most beautiful thing they had ever seen.

Das erste, woran Erestor sich erinnerte, waren die Sterne. Es gab hunderte, tausende, Millionen von ihnen, die über ihm am Himmel standen und sie waren das schönste, was er je gesehen hatte. Diese ersten Tage, Wochen, Monate, vielleicht sogar Jahre, die er mit den anderen an diesem See verbrachte, an dem sie aufgewacht waren, fühlten sich später eher an wie ein Traum als wie etwas, das wirklich passiert ist. Sie nannten sich die Quendi, diejenigen, die mit Stimmen sprachen, aber unter sich nannten sie sich die Kinder der Sterne, denn die Sterne waren das erste und das schönste, was sie jemals sahen.

Summary
When it became known that Frodo and Sam had been captured and that Sauron had obtained the Ring, the three holders of the Elven rings, decided to confront the dark Lord one last time.
The chances had been slim—almost nonexistent—but what else could they have done? Wait in Imladris and Lothlórien for their doom? Wait for Sauron to break down their doors and slaughter their people in their own halls?
They had waited long enough. The Fellowship of the Ring had failed, the companions scattered, dead, or missing. There was no hope left for Middle-earth—only this desperate attempt, this single chance against millions.

Summary
Nachdem Frodo und Sam gefangengenommen wurden, beschlossen die drei Träger der Elbenringe, Sauron ein letztes Mal herauszufordern. Was sonst sollten sie tun? In ihren Reichen auf ihren Untergang warten? Sie hatten nichts mehr zu verlieren.
Und sie hatten versagt. Elrond, Gandalf und Galadriel hatten gemeinsam ihre Truppen verlassen, als klar wurde, das Sauron nicht persönlich erscheinen würde. Die Ringträger waren hinter die feindlichen Linien geschlüpft und waren nur wenige Meilen hinter dem schwarzen Tor auf Sauron gestoßen. Er hatte auf sie gewartet. Der Kampf war schnell und verzweifelt und am Ende lagen Galadriel und Gandalf am Boden, Nenya und Vanya in Saurons Hand. Elrond stand als einziger noch, aber auch er war erschöpft, müde. Müde vom kämpfen, müde von dem Schmerz, der ihm sein Leben lang zu folgen schien, müde vom Leben.

Summary
In which Fingolfin is the son of Míriel and the eldest son of Finwë, who creates the Silmarils. Finarfin is Finwë’s second son, who crosses the Ice to follow his brother. And Fëanor is the one who stays behind to reign over the Noldor in Valinor.
This changes some things. Yet a lot of things remain the same, for the Doom still lies upon the Noldor.
