The words tumbled out of her gracelessly, but so so sweetly. She waited, and all the while, that little balloon grew and grew, the plastic skin of it stretching and thinning with every second before—
“You too,” Celine said back.
‘Pop.’
“Celine,” Rumi tried again, voice shaking as tears she didn’t even know she still had left to shed began to drip down her left cheek. “Celine, I said I love you.”

Summary
Rumi had learned a long time ago that her body was… more resilient than the average human. She wasn't invincible. Her body still bent and broke and popped and bled in an irritatingly human way sometimes. However she tended to heal at a supernatural rate. A broken arm healed in a matter of minutes. A gash closed over in a handful of seconds. The honmoon helped to speed up the healing of its hunters, but not to this level. Not to this extreme.
Still, the first time Rumi gets hit by a bus she is immensely grateful that 1) it is her and not one of her girls that was hit, 2) her demon healing has already started to repair her snapped spine as she careens through the air and 3) that Zoey and Mira are still in the alley way and won't have to watch this happen.

“Hey, Rumi. Look at me,” Mira cupped Rumi’s face and forced her wild eyes to stare into hers. She took one of her hands and placed it over her heart, letting her feel the calm beat and even breathing beneath her fingers. “Feel that? Try and follow it with me okay? Deep breaths. In and out.”
Rumi nodded harshly, brow pinching as her eyes clung to Mira’s. Her breathing stuttered a few times but slowly began to return to normal. Mira could feel her fingers begin to tap on her chest to the rhythm of her heart, a habit that she’d noticed Rumi liked to do when she was focusing or trying to calm herself down.
Something fluttered in her chest at the thought of Rumi using her heartbeat to sooth herself.

That smile wasn’t for the thousands screaming in the performance hall. It wasn’t for the headlines, or the fans, or the cameras desperate to capture the next viral still.
It was for her.
Her chest tightened, breath catching like it always did in these moments. The rest of the world saw her biggest rival.
But Rumi saw the woman who made her goodnight-blend tea at two in the morning when she couldn’t sleep. The one who texted her dumb memes just to make her laugh when she got nervous before an interview. The person she loved in a way she couldn’t admit aloud, not here.

Halfway through the routine, her brain knew the turn before her body did. The spin would’ve landed clean if she’d wanted it to. But Rumi allowed her foot to drag just slightly. Just enough to break the flow.
Mira was on the purple-haired woman instantly, and Zoey sighed in relief at the short break it would afford her.
“Shift your weight, it’s keeping your foot off rhythm.” She said, clipped but calm, and her hand slid to Rumi’s waist to realign her stance. Her fingers were steady and firm—warm even through the cling of her clothes.
Rumi’s lungs filled with her sudden intake of breath. Guilt stabbed sharp in her chest—she knew she'd done it on purpose. She knew she shouldn’t need this. And yet Mira’s touch bled through all the cracks in her armor, soothing and dizzying in equal measure.

Rumi should have paid closer attention to the flyer.
In her defense, the words partner yoga had been bold and centered in a cute font. She hadn’t lingered on the little hearts scattered across the border, or the tagline promising connection, intimacy, and balance for couples. No — she had seen the word partner, thought of Mira, who happened to like Yoga a lot, and immediately texted her before she could talk herself out of it.
A chance to do something together outside work. An opportunity to laugh, spend well-deserved time together, maybe even a chance for Rumi to respectfully ogle a little at how athletic Mira was—just to nurse the gigantic, embarrassing, fat crush she’d been dragging around like a ball and chain for years.
It had seemed like a great idea.
