Tommy’s dead. One minute he was flying a helicopter, the next he’s drifting through a hospital, weightless and unmoored. He finds his old friend Howie in critical condition and stays close, because what else is there to do when you’re dead? If Howie dies too, maybe Tommy will have a friend in the afterlife. Maybe he won’t be so alone anymore.
Except Howie survives. And somehow, Tommy accidentally latches on to the new guy who’s using his old locker at the 118.
Buck is being haunted. Or more accurately, Buck’s locker is being haunted. No one believes him until Chimney comes back to work. Together they try to piece together the ghost’s identity so they can lay his spirit to rest.

Evan sits back on his haunches, unweighting Tommy's legs, and he feels like maybe he could float away from here, unmoored as he is from the bed, from the situation. He's in trouble now, or he will be in a few seconds, but for just this moment he's removed from the forces of gravity, and it feels nice.
"Tommy," Evan says, a tremor in his voice, and that's enough to bring Tommy rocketing back down to Earth. "That wasn't a sext, was it."
Tommy makes a decision. Buck meets him halfway.

Summary
Sometimes Buck forgets that he has to take care of Tommy, too. He’s not sure he knows how. Tommy puts up such a good front. Even when he’s talking about the hard parts of his past, he does it in such a calm, matter-of-fact way that it’s easy to forget just how hard it all was—just how deeply those decades of homophobia soaked into his bones. Seeing how transparently miserable he is now, Buck gets it. This is always under the surface of Tommy’s calm exterior. He just hides it well.
Or:
Buck and Tommy's second six month anniversary dinner is interrupted by Gerrard. Instead of breaking them again, it brings them closer. Buck learns how to take care of Tommy. Tommy learns how to let Buck in.Bookmarked by Obitez
