It’s the first time in a while that he doesn’t know what comes next. He’s dove into the water hundreds of times. Screamed as his flesh was torn apart, heard Master of Puppets in the distance and held back tears. Felt Max’s cold, small hand in his as she laid in the hospital bed. There are things that always happen, no matter how hard he tries: El doesn’t arrive in time. Eddie dies. Max is put in a coma.
Steve fails. They lose.
“Steve, how many loops have you been through?”
His head is nodding, and his eyes are watery, and Eddie has approached him like a spooked animal.
“I lost count.”
AKA: The one where Steve Harrington is stuck in a time loop, and Eddie Munson is really fucking hard to save, or: fuck Volume 2, these bitches are in love.

“I just gotta ask one thing,” Eddie interrupted, leaning over the table and closer to Steve.
“Yeah, man,” he said, voice tight. “Anything.”
“Why’d you leave me down there, Steve?”

18 months after the earthquake, Steve starts having bad dreams. Which wouldn’t mean anything if it weren’t for the nosebleeds and the headaches. Hearing that clock can’t be great. Then Will feels Vecna getting close, and Steve thinks it might be best for him to sacrifice himself. He’s nice like that.

The beautiful, crisp paper as smooth as velvet against his fingers. He ran his thumb over the gold foil inlay, feeling the raised pattern bump against his touch.
It’s beautifully Eddie.
He could feel the threat of tears stinging the backs of his eyes and he desperately tried to keep them from falling.
He just knew. Once they start, they won’t stop.
