“You poor, frail thing. They have you starving in here, don’t they?”
Jhin eyed the way the painter’s throat bobbed under a stripe of fabric – a nervous tick he had picked up early into their time together. Though Hwei was skilled with keeping his expression steeled, his emotions were remarkably intense, and they had a habit of showing up in other places. A glint in his eyes, new tension in his muscle, a quiver of his lips.
Looking into Hwei’s eyes, though, they didn’t quite meet him back. The younger man was searching for something, looking at different parts of Jhin subtly, but frantically. His ungloved hand was left exposed against the canvas, and he seemed fascinated by the prone wrist, as well as the veins trapped underneath.
Greedy boy.

The last words dripped acid.
"Bet he still has that stupid painting of you in the attic or whatever. The one where you're all blond curls and big eyes. Bet he looks at it when he's drunk and gets all maudlin."
Matthew recoiled. "That's not-"
"Don't." Alfred's eyes sharpened, suddenly lucid and vicious. "Don't lie to me right now. Everyone wants you. And me? I'm the asshole they call when they need someone to bleed for them. You were so quiet, so good. Never demanded anything. He didn't have to try with you. Must've been nice."
Matthew's laugh came out strangled. "Nice? He forgot my name half the time."
"Yeah, but when he remembered-" Alfred's eyes were glassy, fever-bright. "When he remembered, it was soft, y'know Gentle. Like you were something breakable he didn't want to drop. Me? I was the thing he threw across the room to see if it'd break."

Summary
No matter what Kayn wishes or does, one day, thirty years in the future, when his body is rotting underground, someone might find pictures of Hwei and put them into a biography of him. Maybe they’d confidently speculate what songs were inspired by his mysterious muse.
Nothing Kayn possesses will truly belong to him, discarded lyrics, unfinished demos, they will not rest in peace. Perhaps after his death, his label decides to milk him for one last drop and releases an album with all the trash he threw out over the years, paired with a photo he took only for himself, of a person he felt drawn to.
He will never be a person again, and Kayn realises with a tight throat that he will do his best to protect Hwei from the same fate.

"Jhin" has always felt disconnected from others. From childhood to now, he felt a distance between himself and other human beings. He never understood what was different, and had long given up on trying to be a "human" like the rest of them. He was simply going through the motions, pretending to be like something he couldn't fathom to ever be. Honestly, there wasn't any reason to be a "real" human anyway.
