a long time ago, Quackity made a bet.
it had been a stupid decision, really, some consequence of vacuous whispers and drunken smiles, to make it; because if rule of house was to follow, you don’t make a bet you don’t know you can win.
maybe what kept bringing him back was the thrill, the psychological pleasure in watching the numbers grow higher under his fingers. scratching out day after day on the calendar, laughing at jokes that weren’t funny and clinking glasses of alcohol together, red liquid so oddly reminiscent of the blood he so regularly bathed in.
what was life if not another gamble?
Quackity may have already lost this bet, but he’ll be damned before he lets Schlatt win.
(or; quackity can't manage to get the revive book outta dream so he decides to make him a guard dog instead :])

Footsteps.
“It’s probably just a polar bear,” Punz said, though his fingers had already tightened around the hilt of his sword. He stood up, shooting a quick glance at Dream before he twisted the doorknob. “I’ll be right back. Just stay here.”
Dream watched in silence as the mercenary fled out into the snow, white hoodie barely visible against the tapestry of winter around it. Apart from the distant footfall, the only sounds to be heard were the quiet crackling of the hearth and his shallow breathing as he waited.
Two minutes.
Then five.
Then ten.
Punz still hadn’t returned.
That probably should’ve been his first warning.
or; dream is framed for a crime he didn’t do and now has to figure out how to fix it without getting thrown in back prison. or dying.

If someone had broken Techno’s window, he might’ve forgiven them, provided they had a good reason.
If someone had hijacked his house, he probably would’ve stabbed them.
If that same somebody had decided that his mattress was going to become their deathbed, sure, why not? Who was he, in the infinite whims of the universe, to stop them from bleeding out all over his floorboards?
…but of all the ungodly hours, why did it have to be 2am?

It was leaning towards the left, one side a darker shade of brown than the other, crust flaking like dried blood. He had tried using green frosting first, before switching back to pink. Mis-colored sprinkles decorated haphazardly along the edges, lopsided smiley face drawn poorly across the centre.
Dream hated how pretty it was.
Sam didn’t get to deserve pretty things.

If you had told Dream that he was stupid for having potatoes as the only food in prison, he would have laughed.
Because what other food was he supposed to use? Carrots? He wasn’t about to prepare a whole five star meal—it was a prison, for goodness sake—and potatoes seemed like a great middle ground. They were easy to produce. They had vitamins and nutrients and all those other things humans needed that Dream had never bothered to learn about.
But that was before Dream had become much too far experienced for his enjoyment, as the duck so often liked to remind him.
…turns out potatoes weren’t a great food source, actually.
