Summary
A month. It is all it takes before Justin and Brian make their way back to where they belong.
Set between 307 and 308, and delves into the events that split our boys up before bringing them back together.
There have been many takes on that period of time in the show. Two of my personal favorites are Severina’s The Only Way Is Up and AHS’s Creative (Go read them and send them love!)
As I am not as concise as they are, and I needed to make sense of the damned month-gap the creators left us with, here is my (long-winded, hopefully okay) view of the events, in two parts to explore both their points of view.***

Introspective fic and gap-filler of sorts stemming from my constant fascination with Brian and Jennifer’s interactions over the course of the show, in that case from 108 to 205. Warning for the (non-too graphic, but still) reference to Prom-related traumatic events.
Title obviously borrowed from Ms. Aretha’s anthem (though the fic has nothing to do with the amazing lyrics of the song). -

Summary
Shane nuzzles the top of his head before leaning in and pressing his mouth to Ilya's forehead.
The kiss is brief and feather-light and casual and yet it's everything for Ilya.
He's quite sure it's impossible for him to smile any wider than he's smiling right now. His heart is fluttering happily in his chest, a content warmth spreading through his body as Shane lingers there, hugging him and humming softly and still placing little kisses on Ilya's temple.
_________Five times Shane gives Ilya forehead kisses and one time Ilya asks for one.

Summary
Shane swipes out of a few notifications from the ESPN app, all clickbait about Scott Hunter’s speech at the NHL awards. He can’t deal with those right now, his brain is not online. Then he sees the Snapchat notification, from Ilya.
Shane puts his phone down and blinks a few times. He picks it up and checks the display again. The notification is still there.
He hasn’t gotten a Snap from Ilya since the end of the season back in April, after they crashed out of the Frozen Four without making it to the final. Shane saw him a few times after that, at team meetings and at the annual sports awards dinner, but he’s pretty sure Ilya left campus before the end of the semester. Shane wasn’t expecting anything from him until the fall, when he’s back at school.
He rubs his eyes and rolls onto his side, swiping the app open. It’s a video.

Shane’s immediate reaction is to say that he doesn't know when it started. He doesn’t know who his soulmate is. This is what he’s been telling himself for years, because if he stops for more than a second to think about how long he's been collecting little pieces of Ilya Rozanov, he thinks he'll spiral out of control.
He'll hit the deck like a firecracker dropped unceremoniously onto the sidewalk, burning wildly and spiralling haphazardly, until he's fizzled out with nothing left to show for himself but smoke, ashes, and the knowledge that his soul is bound to Rozanov's.

Summary
Ilya and Shane soulbond with a handshake in a freezing parking lot in Saskatchewan. It actually doesn’t change very much, until Shane’s concussion drives everything haywire, forcing them into close proximity and an earlier confrontation with all the feelings they’ve been trying to ignore.
Or: as it turns out, it’s easier than you’d think to be in someone’s head and still not know how they feel.
