He watches as Hollander flinches and his face falls, a mixture of hurt and confusion so potent that Ilya desperately wishes he could shove the words back in his mouth.
“Where else would I be, Ilya?” Hollander asks quietly, Ilya’s name like a gut punch every time he hears it drop from Hollander’s lips. “You’re my—”
But Ilya cuts him off. He can’t stand Hollander seeing him like this, so vulnerable again, when he already walked away from Ilya once. “I’m not your anything, Hollander. Go back to Rose Landry.”
OR
Ilya wakes up in 2027, living his happily ever after. But his mind thinks it's 2017 and the last time he remembers seeing Shane Hollander was when he walked out of Ilya's house after eating his tuna melt.

Summary
Now that he could finally recognize who the man in front of him was, everything flooded back into the forefront of his mind. The nights he spent in Moscow poring over hockey content on YouTube, how watching the teen that was poised to be his rival stirred up newfound ambition to become the greatest instead. He remembered that career-ending hit as well, the way Shane’s body crumpled on the ice, tiny and unconscious, body contorted unnaturally as his teammates crowded around him. He remembered the disappointment he felt at not having anyone else to best, to directly compare himself against. Time had passed, and so too did that disappointment in favor of achieving the greatness that Hollander promised. And with that time, Shane Hollander was just another name of the past. But now he was right in front of him, freckles all in the same spots and gear replaced with ugly knit sweaters.

In which Shane Hollander never became the hockey legend he was supposed to. Ilya Rozanov did. Somehow, in the midst of a blizzard, their stories intertwined once more.

Because Hayden had been complaining about Rozanov for nearly half an hour, so drained he’d actually forgotten that maybe the person who, for some reason, loved him wouldn’t want to hear about Hayden’s many grievances. Especially while they were literally on the way to a movie night with the guy.
Hayden’s mouth clicked shut, guilt building up sticky behind his teeth as he understood just how badly he must have fucked up for Shane Hollander to ask for something he wanted, namely, for Hayden to stop being a dick.”
