Summary
Making your way to your college lab-partner's newest research location, you're excited at the prospects of a fresh beginning in a new town. The house is quaint, the woods are deep and mysterious, and Stanford Pines is the same goofball you remember him being. Even with the addition of another research partner (a hick, as surprised as you may be), the duo in the cabin make for a great pair of roommates.
Ford's boisterous brother, on the other hand, is someone you think you'd rather keep at arm's length.

Standing in front of the seated man, you’re just barely taller than him, looking down at him expectantly. He looks damn good in this costume, dark fabric clinging to his body as though it were there naturally. Though he isn’t in his bulked-up form, he’s nevertheless an intimidating creature; tall, muscular, and with that look in his eye that could tear you to shreds before building you right back up to do it again. He tilts his chin upward, shifting his spiked spaulders as that dark gaze is narrowed at your face, one large hand held out toward you expectantly.
“Come sit with me while I work, sunshine.”

You swear, you haven’t seen that goofy red-stained smile leave his face since you made it that way. “Oh, so I’m a better dancer than a kisser?” You ask, the smile evident in your voice as you cross your arms at him.
“You said it, not me.” He laughs, leaning out of the way of your arm swinging out to playfully hit his shoulder. “No, I...I very much enjoyed both, I promise.” Steve soothes, a softness in his warm gaze that makes your stomach flutter with nerves. “I did, too.” Nodding, you bite into your smile, looking down at your shoes instead of up at him as you consider your options. The blond ahead of you clears his throat, turning slightly, “Well, I guess I should--”

You shrug nonchalantly as you rest your cheek against your palm, definitely smushing your cheek and not helping your own disheveled disposition as you smile at him.Arthur chuckles,reaching over to push some hair behind your ear (and you blame only the alcohol for the flip your stomach gives when he leans closer). “Oh sure; talk my ear off half the ride here, an’ go quiet after a li’l liquor gets in you?” He teases, scooting just close enough for his leg to brush against yours.

"I am confused,” says Torse, because he is. “Why would Maxwell have a personal investment in my gender?”
“Because he-” starts Olethra, but Marya cuts her off.
“I think this is a conversation for you to have with Gotch in your own time, Torse,” she says. And then “Olethra, stop meddling. You know the rules.”
Olethra pouts. “Fine.”
Torse is barely paying attention to her. There is the palest, prettiest red flush across the bridge of Maxwell's nose, bringing attention to a small white scar on it. He doesn't know the rules that Marya is talking about, but doesn't much care, too distracted by following the pink curve of Maxwell's ears with his gaze, the way his brown-black lashes frame large dark eyes.
