His breathing was rapid, his heart beating out of his chest, but what tipped him over the edge wasn’t the panic, nor was it the impending sense of a meltdown incoming—rather, it was the simple flick of the light switch; the click it made added to the cacophony of sounds, paired with the intense beam of light, with the final buzz of the electricity, no louder than a murmur, that sent it all to hell. That was when the world switched from too much to too much.
