“San Lang!” Xie Lian rushed over, uncaring of his dressing state or the chilly breeze. Hua Cheng, although stunned into silence, still let go of the broom and caught him easily in his arms, almost by reflex. He immediately swept Xie Lian off his feet, not letting them touch the cold ground.
“Gege, please don't step outside like this, it’s still cold. If you like running around barefooted I’ll just cover the floor in rugs.”
Xie Lian's hands were clenched on his robes, like he was afraid to fall. Hua Cheng adjusted his hold, to make him feel more secure, and walked back into the cottage.
“San Lang,” Xie Lian called again, a little quieter, as the door closed behind them.
“Hm?”
“San Lang.”
“That's me.”
“San Lang…”
