“Doctor,” the Master says, tempering the frustration in his voice with some effort. It is pure madness not to acknowledge who every sense in his body is telling him this is. “As pleasant as I find your unexpected company, it is, still, unexpected. Why are you here?”

He was turning over a thin, cylindrical rod he held with the precision of the totally mad, a self-satisfied gleam to his eyes. “You really must explain the specifics of this… device.”
The loving curl to that word, and the way he was stroking the Doctor’s sonic screwdriver — which had been new, barely even field-tested, and furthermore belonged to him — did not go unnoticed.
An all-together tiring affair, the Doctor thought darkly.

His hearts are beating it out now in an ugly, heavy rhythm. “The sound in your head.” There’s a growing softness in the face of the only other Time Lord in creation. It fills him with giddy hysteria, the overwhelming certainty, because he knows what he has to do, he knows what’s being asked of him and he can offer it freely: “What if I could help?”
The Master scoffs, harsh and hard, and rolls his eyes. “Oh, how to shut him up?”

The Doctor wheezes, his limbs unsteady, back stretched unnaturally in that tight cage. “You don’t need to do this.”
The Master just laughs: a laugh that turns into a moan as Lucy pushes slowly inside of him. Maybe their game will stop when the Doctor learns to stop saying that. He doubts it’ll ever happen.

An alternate version of events in which the Master never gets caught in the time lock at ‘The End of Time’ and the Doctor doesn’t regenerate into his eleventh self. The Master hijacks the TARDIS in an attempt to escape, but gets sent back to the 19th century instead, where he is mistaken for the Doctor by an earlier version of Torchwood and becomes their prisoner as a result.
