It’s very rare for Henry to be actually reminded he doesn’t have a dick.
And- okay, that’s not completely accurate. Henry isn’t walking around thinking he has a dick, because he’s very comfortable with that lack. However he isn’t used to being reminded that isn’t “normal” for men. Most men.
Men who are cis.
He hasn’t had his testosterone shots in a month.
He doesn’t know why the bringing back of his period takes him so off-guard.
-
Or: Trans Henry has a hard time with some resurfacing transphobic trauma after the dads find out who the purple robed-men are. His period returns. He loves the people around him.

“Niklaus wasted his favor.” Gillion said dully. “Because if it happened again, if I had to do it all over, I’d do the same thing.”
“What was the choice, Gil?” Chip asked, urgency and dread pouring into his voice, pulling it down. “Why did you look at me?”*****
Gillion gave up everything for Chip. He and Chip talk about it.

Jay leaves him in the stifling silence, the heavy thud of the door closing ringing in his ears.
As soon as she leaves, he coughs, his body shaking with the force of it. Something feels like it’s clogging his lungs, almost like he has a cold. He wants Jay to come back, to rest her human-warm hands on his skin and—
Gillion coughs violently, hacking until something sits in his open palm. Flower petals…? They’re…blue. But why would he be coughing them up? Something tickles the edge of his memories, of something one of his parents told him about before he left—some sort of story about a merfolk who was cursed. But he can’t be cursed!

Summary
As she approached, Jay snaked her arms around Chip’s waist, pressing her face into the back of his neck with a tired exhale. He jumped, but after less than a second, melted into the contact. His hair tickled her face and she sighed again. He smelled like soap, but not the fancy kind that she had grown up using, it was much more organic smelling. A bit harsher and clearly not as much scent to it. It was the same soap that they had all currently been using, but that didn’t make it bad.
Chip huffed a small laugh, curling his fingers around her wrists.
“Hi, you’re up late,” he said.

What would he even say to them?
“Hey, you know about werewolves?”
Gillion probably didn’t even know what it was. Did Gillion have those types of things in the undersea? Maybe he had some sort of fish monster stories in his culture that was equivalent.
And with how Jay was raised in the navy, Chip could believe that she also wouldn’t know what it was. He had no idea what she would know when it came to stories like that. This meant that Chip would have to explain what it meant and He didn’t know how he’d be able to explain that without sounding insane.

The Hole in the Sea is cold. Or maybe it isn’t- Chip can’t feel much these days, anyway. Here, in the dark, in the thick blanket of silence, something sinks deep into the very core of Chip’s being. Something here weighs on Gillion and Gryffon in a way that Chip can see, clings to them in a way it doesn’t to him.
The Hole in the Sea is cold, and it welcomes Chip home.
Despite his desperation, Chip can't seem to get this damn compass working, and Gillion is erring ever closer to breaking his oath outright to prove how much he cares. Gryffon stays by their side, and they keep moving in search of Drey, Arlin, and- hopefully, eventually- a way out.

“Chip!” He let out one last time, this time more a wail than a yell as his knees buckled with the rocking of the deck.
“...Here.” Chip’s voice found him, weak and barely audible. But there nonetheless.
It came from below, and Gil looked down to see his co-captain dangling from the side of the hull, a small dagger jammed into the wood. He was completely drenched from head to toe, more than the rain could ever manage, and he was trembling violently.
But he was there, he was alive.
Gillion sighed. His chest filled with a lightness he was beginning to grow familiar with, but couldn’t quite name. As he stared at Chip, it festered inside him, and in the middle of the raging midnight storm, Gillion Tidestrider grinned like an idiot.Bookmarked by flyingworm

Summary
In the very recent days out on the sea their co-captain Gillion had revealed something personal about his triton biology to them. In an anxious, unexpected conversation he’d sheepishly admitted to them that tritons required a brief hibernation at least once a winter for them to maintain a healthy metabolic system.
Gillion described it almost like the way they sometimes restarted Alphonse’s gears if he was experiencing malfunctions, that it was a way for a triton’s body to shut down and restore balance to all of its internal functions and prepare for the summer months full of intense swimming and food-catching.
When he brought it up he seemed beyond embarrassed, mentioning that if he could he wouldn’t have told them in the first place as to not worry or inconvenience them but he didn’t want them to be frightened when he inevitably started sleeping and did not wake for potentially up to two weeks.

Summary
Despite the difficulties of communicating with someone at sea, May and her daughter had maintained a very strong connection. It didn’t feel right to pry, but more then a small part of her was very curious about the mysterious dying triton boy that had shown up at her doorstep and why he referred to her daughter with such a personal nickname.
She continued on with tidying the guest room for general use as what Gillion had muttered was clearly not meant for her to hear and his care was currently the most important thing at the forefront of her mind, but a part of her interest was officially piqued.

If Gillion loved Chip, he could not love Jay.
If he loved Jay, he could not love Chip.
If they both loved him, they could not love each other.
And Gillion was afraid.
He was afraid because Chip and Jay did not seem to know this, because they talked about their situation as if there was no one who might hear, or they simply didn’t care if someone did. They linked their elbows or interlaced their fingers as they walked through the streets of the islands they passed, called Gillion love and guppy and beautiful thing, you marvellous creature, the prettiest of all, my sun and moon and stars, and—
Gillion couldn’t do this anymore.
