“I’m serious. That rearview mirror has lived through so many angles and lives in the past six minutes that it’s about to start recounting its first-hand experience on the Titanic.”
Just for that, Eddie reaches up between them and tweaks the mirror again. A ray of sunlight hits it and bounces across Buck’s eyeline. Buck’s face scrunches up as he rushes to shield his forehead with one hand. It does not remind Eddie whatsoever of a small, bashful dog hiding behind its soft paw, because that would be deranged. He twists the mirror back into position.
“The Titanic probably would have gotten us to Nashville better than this truck.”
Buck’s indignant squawk rings out in time with the turnover of the engine as Eddie hits the ignition.

Summary
Buck blinks hard, but the scene in front of him doesn’t change.
There’s a new soft swell to Eddie’s stomach, still small but large enough that it must take some effort to hide it under his clothes. His hand is resting there, almost cradling it, and Buck is transfixed.
He drags in a ragged breath. It could be nothing. Maybe Eddie had an abnormally large lunch, or maybe he gained a few pounds from the more sedentary work he did in El Paso. Either could be a reasonable explanation for the change in Eddie’s body.
But Buck also remembers the secret Eddie whispered to him here in this room, in the dim light of the early morning. With their bodies still tangled together, Eddie’s face had gone tight and cautious as he apologized for not telling Buck sooner that he was a carrier — information that had been largely irrelevant in his life before that moment.
And that means…

"Eddie, I'm being serious. Did you buy this? I need to know where it came from."
"It came from the store."
"Dad, what Buck really wants to ask is...are you stealing things from the store?"
“I’m not stealing anything. They’re giving it to me,” Eddie said, slumping in his chair as he unwrapped another popsicle. “There’s a difference. They give me whatever I want."
"Who?"
"My friends."
“Cool, my dad’s part of a crime ring,” Chris giggled in excitement.
“Please, Chris. Not right now. I’m worried that your sister is going to be born in prison.”
Or: Eddie's developed certain cravings during pregnancy. Buck and Chris just wish he wasn't craving a lifestyle of crime.

Summary
Buck stands and watches him fondly, and suddenly something clicks into place in his mind.
Scent change. Cravings. Clinginess. Nesting.
“Oh,” Buck breathes.
Eddie looks up. “Oh what?”
Buck swallows, excitement and nervousness tangling in his chest. “Eddie… have you—have you taken a test?”
Eddie freezes.
For a long moment, he just stares at Buck, eyes shiny and unreadable. Then his hands curl into the blankets, gripping them tight.
“…I promise I was planning on telling you tonight,” he whispers. “M’sorry”
Buck’s heart stutters. “Tell me— tell me what, exactly?” He asks, even though he pretty much knows the answer already. He wants to hear it from Eddie.
Eddie’s scent spikes—warm, sweet and nervous. He takes a breath, then another, grounding himself.
“I’m pregnant.”
-Or: Buck starts to notice some weird changes in Eddie.

Summary
There is nothing Buck wants more in the world than to be a dad. Never mind that he's as good as to Chris, Buck wants to have a family of his own. Eddie understands that too, even if he wants to take Buck by the shoulders sometimes and shake him, show him everything he's already got.
Buck has never outright said this to Eddie, but it doesn't take a genius to figure it out. Besides, it's Eddie's job as Buck's best friend to know these things.
So why, if he wants a baby so bad, is he giving one to a couple who won't appreciate it?
Or: Eddie is jealous that Buck is a sperm donor for Connor and Kameron, so the universe gives him Buck's baby instead.
