“Yeah.”
Ilya nods. “I can house-sit while you are away. Make place pretty, if you have decorations. Make it less boring.”
Shane’s eyebrows fly up. “What? You don’t want to come with?”
Finally, Ilya looks up at him. Hesitantly, he asks, “You want me to come with?”
Frowning, Shane says, “I– yeah. Yeah, of course. You think I invited you here just so you could spend Christmas alone?”
Looking away, Ilya shrugs. “I am intruder here, Hollander. You have family. I do not. Makes situation… difficult, maybe. You forget the world thinks we are rivals.”
“Not difficult,” Shane says immediately. “You want to come, you’re coming.”

“What did you just say?” Shane asked, turning his head to look over his shoulder at Ilya. His hands, which were washing the dishes left over from the pasta they’d cooked for dinner, stilled.
“I said, if you wanted to have sex with other men while on the road, or in Montreal, you can,” Ilya said, shrugging. His face was lax, as if he were telling Shane about the weather, or a story from the Boston locker room. As if the idea of Shane getting fucked by other men were no big deal to him.

The hand doesn’t pull away. Instead, it slides lower.
Shane stiffens as fingers trace down his spine, lingering too long, dipping beneath the hem of his shirt. Skin-on-skin contact sends a jolt through him, not pleasure, not comfort, but something sharp and wrong. His breath catches.
Then the hand grips him. Firmly. Possessive. Fingers digging into his ass through his jeans.
Shane jerks slightly, confusion slicing through the fog. His heart stutters, a hard, uneven beat that makes his chest ache.
