The boys don't have long until they have to head to college, so after acquiring a few days away from work, they head to Rose Hill, Tennessee. It's soft and full of silent promises.

Another snowball whacks into the back of his head. Jack stops cold, processing, before he starts to turn, his upper body rotating, his head swiveling like he’s an owl in slow-motion. Behind him, Robby’s grinning, and he points to Edie, her head against his shoulder, grabbing at his nose with one tiny mitten.
“It was her,” he insists. “I saw everything. Heck of a shot, right? You gotta be impressed—”
“You’re both going down,” Jack informs him— a statement, a threat, and a promise— but first, he turns back to Dennis. “Neither of them can save you now.”
