    “I just think—you shouldn’t underestimate an Admiral. Maybe you can beat him, but putting yourself at a disadvantage on purpose is just—” Coby pinches the bridge of his nose, pushing his glasses up onto his forehead with his free hand.

    Luffy groans impatiently, “I’m not at a disadvantage. Not really. What’s the issue?”

    When Coby uncovers his face, he finds Luffy watching him with a mix of curiosity and concern. He glows with the promise of youth, of a new age, and even now seeing him as anything except invincible is hard. But Coby lived to see the strongest man in the world fall. He lived to see one of the most important men in Luffy’s life ripped away. He lived to see Garp, broken and weeping.

    As they face each other, on opposite sides of a cage door, Coby realizes that this may be the last time that they can speak like this.

    There is a long stretch of time, between the Tragedy and the end of the Emperor's war, that Dedue spares not a single thought for the concept of marriage.
    After it all, when he and Dimitri go out for nighttime walks to ease their minds, he’ll catch Dimitri glancing at him from the corner of his eye before quickly darting away. It’s so uncharacteristic of him that it’s… cute. If he is allowed to use such a word. Those times, Dimitri almost always deflects into a comment about how the moon looks lovely that evening, or how he wonders if Dedue started wearing a new cologne. Yes, it does look lovely. No, it is the same as ever.
    But in those brief moments of solitary peace, an anxiety claws inside Dedue’s ribs.
    Don’t read too far. Don’t cling too close.
    It can never be.
