Summary
At ten years old, Thranduil and his parents visit a little Welsh cottage where he finds an imaginary friend; a boy who lives inside the fireplace in his bedroom. Eight years later, he returns to discover that he hadn't been imagining anything after all. Bard Bowman is a very real boy, and the fireplace in Thranduil's cottage bedroom is an impossible gateway to another time. Thranduil returns to the cottage several times, but each visit finds Bard and Thranduil at different points in their lives.
Their timing is never quite right.
Or: five times Thranduil leaves without Bard, and one time he doesn't.

Summary
Bard and Thranduil hadn’t really talked about whatever it was that had been growing between them. They hadn’t put their feelings in to words, hadn’t really said that there even were feelings or decided whether or not they were together. Thranduil wasn’t sure if it was because they weren’t sure, or if it was because it didn’t need to be said. Probably a little bit of both.

Most of the time, Thranduil felt like this could be enough— or maybe he hoped it could be. Enough just to laugh and to enjoy Bard's company, to feel normal and to avoid all the messy stuff. Enough to keep from getting his heart broken and hurting the people he cared for. It could be enough for him to be happy. This right now— this should have been enough.
But then it was over, and Thranduil wasn't sure it was enough. He felt strained and weak, as though his heart might buckle beneath the weight of the longing he felt. He wanted more, and he wanted more with Bard. He wanted it so badly he almost couldn't stand being so close to him without being able to hold him and tell him how much he—
"Thran?" Thranduil came back to himself with a start. Bard was standing a few paces away, studying him with a small frown. "You alright?"

Summary
Thranduil is a famous chef setting up his new restaurant. Bard is a browbeaten head chef at a tiny Welsh bistro. By way of a happy accident, they lock eyes over the dirty alleyway that runs outside both of their restaurants. It's as good as love at first sight for both, yet neither is particularly adept at expressing as much.
