Shane waited patiently for Rozanov’s answer, his heart pounding away in his chest as he stared at the other man.
“No,” Rozanov said decisively. Shane felt his heart shatter as the other man flicked his cigarette dismissively. “I do not have a soulmate.”
Oh. Shane sat in stunned silence for a few moments, his glass of vodka frozen in midair, halfway to his lips.

Summers had appeared beside him, the sound of his skates muffled under the blood rushing through Ilya’s ears– and elsewhere– as he stole another glance at Shane.
“I don’t do them and I am better than him, so no. Or maybe they do help and I could be best hockey player ever.”
“Mm. Hey, if he wants to put himself in that position it’s on him, I guess. I’m not gonna complain about the show.”
Ilya froze, turning himself on the ice to face Summers properly.
“The… show?”

Shane’s eyes caught on Ilya’s sharp features, snagging along his angular jaw and drifting carefully past his lips to meet his eyes. They didn’t speak, didn’t chirp at each other like usual, just playfully smacked their sticks against the ice. Shane couldn’t help but to smile at the light in Ilya’s eyes, a joy there that he had never seen before.
Nearly a decade into knowing each other, something had finally changed. They had finally been able to be more.

Buck snorted and flipped Chimney off. “I’m not sure,” he said, furrowing his brows, “I haven’t really thought about it.”
“What?” Hen’s voice was full of exaggerated shock. “You? You always go overboard for Halloween, you’re telling me you seriously haven’t planned some elaborate costume?”
“Well, I mean…” Panicking, Buck scrambled for an excuse that wasn’t ‘I’ve been spending so much time thinking about Eddie I haven’t really had room for much else.’

“Fine!” Buck snapped, whipping something out of his pocket. “I had to get reading glasses and I’ve been embarrassed about them, okay?” he rushed out, shoving the glasses onto his face. He opened his mouth again, probably to go on a tirade, but Eddie’s ears were suddenly full of cotton.
It was like those absurd moments in cartoons, Buck’s face framed with clouds and flowers and big, pink cartoony hearts, all surrounding his face– his face that had glasses on it. The glasses weren’t anything special– round, matte black wire frames that weren’t even that noticeable. Somehow, though, they managed to make the blue of Buck’s eyes even brighter than usual. They framed his birthmark perfectly as well, somehow bringing more attention to it instead of covering it. Eddie couldn’t drag his eyes away from the spot of pink, the shade of it perfectly matching the little hearts that were still floating around Buck’s head, and–

His same house full of Buck’s things, Christopher’s laughter ringing down the hall, Buck in the kitchen making them dinner as Eddie picked out a movie. It was like it had always been except better, because Buck didn’t leave at the end of the day.
Instead, Eddie got to wake up each morning to Buck coming out of the bedroom, his hair a tangled mass of curls and his eyes still bleary with sleep. The idea that Buck was trying to deprive him of that view– he wouldn’t stand for it.
